ALDI & LIDL Food and Drink Worth Trying?
Discussion
We both love duck breast and had been looking in Aldi for a few days. Nothing
So, last Friday we gave in and paid £9:49 at Booths for 2 x Gressingham breasts, for Saturday night. On Sunday we called in Aldi and sure enough they had the identical pack for sale at just £5:50 each. We grabbed 3.
This has to be one of their best ever deals.

These are great, I bought four the other day.
I have to say, Aldi's easter eggs were pretty decent, received a couple as gifts and they were probably better than Cadbury ones I've had.
WOW! You are using Cadbury as a benchmark for quality chocolate? It’s milk and sugar with a bit of cocoa. I have to say, Aldi's easter eggs were pretty decent, received a couple as gifts and they were probably better than Cadbury ones I've had.

We have been buying the Gressingham confit legs (which are far more succulent than the breasts IMO) from Sainsburys when they are reduced to £6.50 using the Nectar card. So, last Friday we gave in and paid £9:49 at Booths for 2 x Gressingham breasts, for Saturday night. Did folks know that there are two separate Aldi's?
The two founding brothers fell out and split the company in 1960. The UK Aldi is Aldi Sud and nothing to do with Aldi in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal and Spain, which are Aldi Nord.
Aldi sud operates in Australia, Austria, China, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States.
The branding looks the same, but it's not, there are subtle differences, they're two separate unconnected (other than the original family link) supermarket chains.

The Lidl bakery really is superb. That is all!
It is quite good, but nothing compared to anything in France, Germany or Austria. Even the Lidl in Europe puts our to shame.Trustmeimadoctor said:

I feel that the Aldi Sud are slightly more upmarket compared to the Aldi Nord, but prefer Lidl myself personally.

Which is the one that wanted to sell cigarettes and what is the reason the other brother didn't want to sell them, moral reasons. Also, what is it about German brothers falling out and setting up rival companies to each other.

No picture but I bought ostrich steaks yesterday so will be interested to see what they're like BBQd
Let us know how they taste. Have you ever had ostrich before. I'd imagine it to be quit lean. When I used to live in Australia, I often bought kangaroo burgers. They weren't as tasty as beef burgers, but were super lean and high in protein, as well as being very sustainable.NSNO said:
