Lidl Greenland prawns - £4.89 for a 500g bag.

Waitrose 'Canadian' prawns are more than double the price and no better quality except for being more uniformly sized.

Which I don't care about when they're going in a jambalaya anyway.

Agreed, their prawns are excellent. I think they also have a better flavour than W's counterpart. Try them plain out of the bag, side by side. Defrosted of course smile

My point was not to highlight their stock holding out the back but the often blank spaces on their shelves. While the manager may have no say in the items of stock they do have a direct input into the volume of stock ordered.
As another poster has remarked you do need to check carefully the sell by dates as they can be short. In my own
( Independent) shop we took special care to put milk for example that was shorter dated out the front so it was that one you bought. I also note they often have fruit that has gone bad in a bunch/bag and from poor handling, like bruised from just dumping one on top of another. You just need to be careful to check everything.
Not so sure about that, I had a chat with local manager who said that it sometimes drives him up the wall, that they take no notice, that: "the computer decides"

Aldi are terrible for this. My spend with them is reduced by hundreds of pounds a year because they don't price the stuff on the shelves.

It should be giving someone seriously sleepless nights, because it's such a stupid thing to fail on.

Especially for such an otherwise high-performance operation.
In all my local Aldi's the prices are always there , just need to look around.

I just put it in the trolley, whatever it is it won't be expensive.

I'm not one of the new Aldi customers , I've been shopping there for 10 years , I'm just surprised it's take so long for everybody else to catch on

Anybody tried the extra special Belgian chocolate cheesecake in the freezer, it's lovely, really rich

I find Aldi's stock control annoying. I wanted some shampoo lasdt week and I normally buy the big 1L bottle of "Salon" shampoo, basically because it is 1L and lasts longer so i don't have to keep buying it. Anyway, none in. Well I'm not that arsed, shampoo is shamppo if I'm honest, how about the green tea , minty fresh one, conditoner, conditioner, conditioner, label says shampoo, conditioner, more fking conditioner. I'll try next week.

I shop after 8pm, because I get easily annoyed by other people dawdling round whilst shopping. Monday night to really limit the crowds and what do I get, pallet after pallet after pallet in the middle of aisles so you can go one side only, blocking the shelves. This on top of practically no fresh fruit n veg left either.

Loaves of bread. I used to get the farmhouse white sliced but now I just get the one with a reasoable best before date, I'm tired of checking the dates and finding that it's tomorrow. As I may have mentioned I'm not a keen shopper, I don't want to do it twice, so I want a loaf that can last a week.

Unknown prices for things. The goods are on the shelf, but there is no clue as to what it costs. The fact I am wondering what is costs means that they had a good chance of a sale. No price, no sale smile

Complaining here isn't going to help, I might just contact Aldi. I can't believe that any of this is corporate policy.
I wrote to them via their contact us page and got an immediate reply; apparently they take these things very seriously smile Mind you 500 character limit on the complaint field so I wasn't able to really voice my thoughts smile

So today I've tried their chilli and sour cherry chocolate - Quite good!

Their fruit and nut isn't that great.

Bought a big container of Blueberries and they have gone in the bin, totally tasteless.

Liking the Frikadellers from Aldi at the moment. Makes a lovely breakfast bap, takes me back to jaunts to Munich and the morning after the night before food :-)

That is strange as we buy the Lidl chicken breasts and can fault them along side the ones from the butcher.
Ditto, i actually found them to be a lot more succulent that butchers chicken i've had in the past

Yup...its a good system.
It's also delivered after hours while the store is shut, the truck drivers have the codes for the stores, unload, re-load waste and cardboard and lock up again. Another way of reducing costs

Went yesterday to Aldi as I csn't seem to resist the "tool tat" they have.

Also sampled their "luxury goose fat" frozen roast potatoes..........absolute GASH!! Same goes for onion rings. Mushed up floor scrapings. GASH!

Quite, Lidl or Aldi, if you want it, the price is pretty always good, and certainly better than elsewhere.

Had Lidl rump and sirloin steaks the last couple of nights, great flavour considering they weren't aged.

I have no ALDI near me, only LIDL. more importantly one near work.

does anyone get food from them to eat as their work lunch? can anyone reccomend? I am seriously fed up of getting tesco meal deals, or getting fried chicken for lunch.
The only thing we have at work is a microwave.

the fresh bread always seems tempting, so something to eat with that? Or if there is something else. <£3 a meal would be nice.

Cured meats, good cheese and fresh bread? biggrin

Not sure if LIDL does them however Tesco do some good soups in microwaveable tubs or the rice pots are good too!

Aldi do the soups in tubs now, not had them myself but believe they are meant to be nice.

I went to Lidl in Springburn a few days ago and it was extremely disappointing. The beef mince selection was crap - mostly 20% fat stuff, and the 5% stuff cost considerably more than it does in a normal supermarket. Aldi on the other hand do really nice stuff that is just over a fiver per kg.

Veg selection was rubbish too, as was the bakery. They didn't even sell good beer!

Ended up doing my shop in Tesco across the road instead. Will be sticking to Aldi from now on!

Lidl do the fresh soups don't know how much but will be similar to Aldi at 89p for 600g which is almost double a standard tin size.

They now do a small fresh tiger bread baton 45p, then you can buy a pack of their delicious cheese coleslaw (think that's about 95p) and a pack of German ham (£1.25)and make a very nice sub sandwich for less than £3
