For the Lidlers: 'Sargona' canned chick peas.
Fulsome, plump beauties are these, up for a party and ready for immediate inclusion into a succulent Chana Dhal.
By comparison, Waitrose own label canned chick peas are hard-bitten old harridans, needing many hours of coaxing to make something you'd vaguely want to eat. Moreover at twice the price.

Carry on like that and you'll be producing the TV adverts next!
Not food but yesterday I picked up a Japanese style knife in Lidl for £4.99.
I opened the box to check the blade wasn't 5mm thick and didn't have a crappy handle with the weight distribution all wrong; and cut one of my fingers.
Anyway all seemed good so i bought it.
Tonight preparing dinner I have cut myself twice more.
Now before you say learn how to use a knife, I cooked for a living for 17 years and thought I kept my Wusthoff and Richardson knives sharp.
This is at a whole new level, it snags your fingernails rather than gliding down them.
How long and easy it is to keep it in this state we'll have to wait and see.

We have been shopping at Aldi for a while and much prefer it to Tescos etc.
The do some good beers, their Stella a like is fine for four cans and a quid or so cheaper, they do a bottled Lager called Bavaria which is really nice, they had some french Abbey beers called "La Goudale" which were really rather nice but not longer in stock. Quite a good selection of proper ales as well
Thr Garlic sauage is great for sandwiches and only 39p. Their "Tourchon" ham is great
Their Soups are genernally great, the fresh Leek and Potato, Vegetable etc are great, their canned soups taste as good an Heinz and are 39p, that is a really cheap lunch at work, can of that and a couple of rounds of toast, lunch for about 60p, at our place on site, Soup is £3.20 ffs.
Their Apple and Cinnamon cereal is lovely.
The Fillet Steak is fantastic, £5 a piece but it is the equal of what you get in a decent steak place, bit of seasoning, a minute or so either side, nice and rare, way way better than anythign we have had from the usual supermarkets.
Their Chicken is great, quite a bit cheaper and we go through quite a lot.
Have started using their deodorant and I love the smell of that,
Dishwasher tablets are good.
Stir fry sauces and noodles are really good
Jim Beam at £12.95 is a good deal.
Not really had anything that wasn't acceptable, I actually prefer a lot of their stuff, I had a basic cheese Pizza (chilled as opposed to frozen) the other day, that was pretty average.

Aldi are having wagyu burgers in tomorrow, will pop in early to hopefully get some to try.
Last time they had 4 packs in one of the biggest stores in London, they all got picked up by the workers before the store opened, I would not be holding your breath that you might get one.slinky said:
Stock of La Goudale seems to be sporadic, they had loads over christmas (and there were two variants), my local store has some in at the mo. I'd buy loads and stock up, but I can't stop myself drinking it!
Goudale from Aldi is good, but the same stuff from French supermarkets is better. For some reason (tax or import duty I expect) the stuff Aldi sell is only 6% ABV, but the French get 7.2%. The difference is very noticeable.dmitsi said:

Cheeky. Well I'll pop in at opening time on the way to work and hope I'm lucky. Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
