So I may have got a look off the OH of WTF as I walk in with this.

This week I will be mainly sweating serrano.

It weighs in at 6.5kg
We purchased one of these on Friday for the office (!). The lure of owning a ham for £10 each was irresistible. It's definitely not the best, but passable. After attacking it for half a day I think we realise it's rather a lot of ham.

I got a freind to get one for me today from Lidl. The mrs is definitely not impressed... "you do realise that we will end up chucking most of it out."

I must admit that it is quite a bit bigger than I expected, so she may well be correct.

Do not under any circumstances buy Aldi's equivalent of gold blend coffee. It is absolutely fowl and not even good enough to save for guests you don't like. Had 2 cups then entire jar went in bin, to be replaced by large jar of Douwe Egberts that was half price in village co-op.

was just going to post about coffee - I loved this one:

But it seems to have gone in recent weeks - looked int various stores.

So I made do with their fair-trade one (its got a toucan on the label) - Also not bad for an instant.

In a long tin and from Lidl. We bought it once then again days later when friend's came round as it was lovely.

make sure to be a disgusting pig like me and scrape out every last bit of the sauce that gets stuck in the ridges in the foil.
Agreed, it's our go to weekend treat pudding.

Well, it turns out that the mrs was absolutely right.

This is the toughest bit of gristle that I have ever tried to eat.

I've managed to slice it very thin, and it is still too tough to chew.

It's a pity, because I quite like the flavour.

I ended up frying it and making a bacon sandwich. This was quite good.

It cost about the same as 10 packs of dry-cure bacon, but weighs the same as 30 packs. So, it is not a complete disaster. There is also the chance that other parts of the leg might be more tender.

To be fair to the mrs, she is looking more sympathetic than smug.

Bought a bottle of Chablis (2013) at Lidl today for £7.99.

It is the best wine that I have had in a couple of years.
yes

A steal.

I first bought it at <£6 in 2010 or so, and even though prices have crept up since then,
it's still the best Chablis for the price to be found anywhere.

It knocks all other supermarket offerings at <£15 into a cocked hat.

We didn't buy one of these hams but tried a packet of thinly sliced same.

Have to agree, don't care for it really.

On the other hand the Italian Prosciutto Cotto di Alta Qualita is absolutely bloody gorgeous.

Only things I've found that are a bit crap are cereals and beans (like an earlier poster), not really found anything else crap.

I bought some Aldi Weetbiscuits (or whatever they're called), not the basic range, but the ones that look like Weetabix.

Anyway, we found a small piece of metal in one of them, which I wasn't too pleased about, and I wrote and made a little complaint.

I received a letter back a week or so later offering a discount at Aldi and some apologies, on headed paper from............

........Weetabix.

Aye, they take the ones with bits of metal/severed finger/mouse corpse in them, and sell them off cheap to shift them on... think of it as a free children's toy!

The Pinot Noir rose that Aldi are doing is particularly delicious. £6.99 a bottle, and it's summer in a glass.

I bought those at the weekend and thought the seemed "lighter" / less dense than the real thing, having said that I can't remember when I last took more than a glance at a real one.

Currently trying the Aldi Nespresso rip off coffee capsules, not thrilling me so far but I've only tried the purple ones as yet.

Its what I've found, tried a few different kinds, the hazelnut filled ones are nice, but everything else was pretty average.

Aldi Bran Flakes are very nice, better than Kellogg's IMO, and their shreddies are good.

The Lidl Cornflakes are nice, but not quite as good as Kelloggs (but half the price).

I spotted the burgers in the special buy - are they any good? I'd always assumed Wagyu beef was really expensive, yet they seem quite reasonable.

Popped into Lidl last night and noticed they have a load of frozen tapas type things on offer (or did, it seems like they end soon, so they didn't have much stuff left) so I stocked up on mini croquettes with serrano ham, calamari, a big box of massive prawns & some churros - just annoyed they'd sold out of patatas bravas!

Waitrose have a range of continental meats from "Unearthed". All their meats are really good, including their Spanish hams.
