ALDI & LIDL Food and Drink Worth Trying?
Discussion
A comparison I've been doing of late whilst shopping in Lidl is comparing how much of the actual title ingredient is in the product, i.e. tomatoe soup, tomatoe sauce, olive oil butter spread etc.
Yes the missus rolls her eyes at me whilst I'm doing it!
In each case, there was more in the Lidl branded product except against Bertoli which had the same amount of olive oil in it, but the Lidl own is around half the price.
Ketchup as an example:
Lidl: 197g of tomatoes per 100g (actual label states 170 per 100ml = 86g)
Heinz: 148g of tomatoes per 100g
It's also about half the price of Heinz and tastes better for it.

Just had an Aldi Aberdeen Angus "Gourmet" burger. It was delicious. I'm not an expert on burgers, so I will report back when my son has his. We went there looking for the Wagyu burgers, but they had run out.
We tried the Knightsbridge English tea from Lidl. Sadly, although the tea is of good quality, there is only about 2 grammes of tea in each bag. My normal tipple has 3 grammes per bag.

Anyone tried the Aldi Prosecco? Going tomorrow and our local one is next door to Sainsbury whose 789 Prosecco is quite delicious and not bad at the reduced price of £6.75 IIRC. Aldi's is a fiver so would like an opinion if anyone has had a sip!
I like their Pinot blush too. Very reasonable for a nice sparkly glugable on a summers evening

I've had it a few times, it's lovely, they do one now and again with a silver label for about £7 and that is really nice as well.
A question to the Aldi-ers. How do you know when these wagyu burgers are in other than simply making a regular visit. Does it appear on their app? Aldi are not easy for us to use requiring a 20 mile round trip to the nearest. Have called in a couple of times when heading out that way on other business but no luck so far. Or is it a regular stock that just gets sold out early?

I think you may have that the wrong way round? I don't think 100ml of ketchup weighs less than 100g. I think you have to invert your calculation, so 146g per 100g. About the same as heinz Yes the missus rolls her eyes at me whilst I'm doing it!

Just checked the bottle as I pulled the other figure from the web and it's actually 172g of fresh tomato per 100g is sauce, so it is more than Heinz. tedmus said:

stupid question, do you have to take your own bags?
Not sure, I let the servant pack the bags and the chauffeur carries them to the car... I think.I just supervise and critique them.
(Take a rucksack as its easier to carry the stuff and have loads of life bags, so don't see the point of buying bags, if in the car I just load up a cardboard crate with the food and place in boot, simples.)
Take an insulated M&S bag or bags for chilled / frozen. Some green woven Waitrose bags just for the PH considerably richer than yow effect.
Also snaffle a couple of empty cardboard boxes from fruit and veg for stuff, added advantage ofthat being that the puppy likes to play with empty boxes when he is given them, and not until he is given them, he knows that, and it gets an outlet for any destructive tendencies we have learnt.
