ALDI & LIDL Food and Drink Worth Trying?

Far from an Aldi fan here, I like their variety but personally feel a lot of their range is a little or no better than most supermarket's budget ranges (but usually more expensive)
Yeah, the recent ad on TV made me laugh. Can't remember if it was Lidl or Aldi, but it showed a fridge full of branded food (Heinz, Lilt etc.) with a statement that "last week, this shop cost me £xxx, but this week I went to <insert cheap alternative store> and it cost me 27p". Except that the fridge now contains unbranded (or Lidl / Aldi brand) products (I admit I may be exaggerating with the 27p).It's completely unrealistic - I'd be far more interested to see how a weeks shop of supermarket unbranded / own brand value food compared to Aldi / Lidl. Don't think it would be quite so significant.

I know that Lidl in their taste tests have been pitching themselves against the main brands like for like as opposed to against Supermarket own/economy labels so for that reason it is comparable.Ultimately, it's your own hard earned to spend where you like. Personally, I am a Lidl fan...
Having put on a few pounds I've been eating less at work and in a moment of agonising emptiness pilfered some Aldi/Lidl Cup-a-soups from a colleague on annual leave, (actually I had clearance for this).
They were OK -and certainly better than nothing so I went to a shop near another office I work from to get some more, only to find that my choice was limited to the original Rolls Royce (and original) of soup-in-cups product by Batchelors.
But they're not as good. The common or garden chicken or vegetable varieties are thinnner and have less flavour, probably because no matter how much you stir them, there's always a splodge of sludge in the bottom of the cup. The Aldi/Lidl version responded as you'd hope, by progressing to full and even suspension of the magic powders from brim to bottom.
Lesson learned. fk you Batchelors.

The best & the only ones we have in our house are the Ainsley Harriott ones. My wife normally does the shopping at Morrisons but the MiL shops at Aldi, they were out together last week and called at an Aldi.
My wife got a joint of beef, we had it over the weekend and it was a really nice piece of meat, very little fat and zero waste. She couldn't remember how much she paid but thought £6 or £7. If that is so she should go there again, as she has paid twice as much in the past from other supermarkets for worse chunks of cow.

It will be about that price, depending on the one you had.My wife got a joint of beef, we had it over the weekend and it was a really nice piece of meat, very little fat and zero waste. Aldi £65, Morrison £75, however nearly all of that was due to the meat, everything else was very similarly priced. However if we actually shopped in Morrison would we buy own brand - probably not.
I popped into Aldi earlier today, specifically to buy the new skin care products that went on sale yesterday. None left, was told their allocation had all been sold within the first hour of opening. I bought their special offer beef roasting joint following above recommendation - said 21 day matured and use by date of 24/10. I'll try that at the weekend

I've bought a roasting joint for the past two weekends, only £5 something, they have both been very good considering how the wife cooks them too!My wife got a joint of beef, we had it over the weekend and it was a really nice piece of meat, very little fat and zero waste.
