Every lidl I have been in has this facility... thats when kids are not sat on the ledge hogging it.
Same at both Lidls here and at the newer Aldi where the speed of goods through checkouts would win an Olympic gold.
Will be glad when new one at Blackpole in Worcester opens. They have the shelf after the tills but it's too narrow, and the hanging adverts stop you packing. Coupled with small tills and assistants who throw stuff across the scanner makes for the worst of all scenarios.

Back in the days before barcodes, the job of cashier was the highest paid in an Aldi store. To be able to work on the tills, you had to remember a PLU ('price look up' - a unique four digit code which represented each item) which you keyed into the register, and you had to hit a certain baud rate of processing goods, which was in excess of three times the rate of UK supermarkets, where the cashier read the price sticker on each item and tapped it in.

Netto is a brand discounter. So (with a few Scandinavian bits sprinkled in) you'll recognise products: Heinz, Persil, Cadbury's etc.

Aldi and Lidl share a modus operandi which is to switch people away from brands and to bring the customers savings by providing good quality products under their own or non-mainstream brands.

Netto is okay, they have their own weekly offers. Lidl sells the same pear cider.

Just back from another shop, still n9 burgers, don't think my local branch stocks them.

Did get some of them lovely bratwursts too. One of the guys on British BBQ recommended hot smoking them so trying that tomorrow, will post pics if any good.

Did pick up the special buys magazine on the way out. Some really good drinks coming in for Christmas but what i was really amazed by was a 48" 4K tv for just £299! That is phenomenally cheap!

Rick, if you're in York (as per profile) they do get them in that store.

Keep trying!

Monks Cross?

I live in Rawcliffe and there are plans to build one on the old grain stores/new housing site. looking forward to having one on my doorstep. Hope they build a big car park because I'm sure they will give Tesco a run for it's money.

Just got back from our first £100+ shop at Aldi which includes some Gin & Tonic crisps. Though I found the bin for them, there were none in there. When I asked one of the staff he fetched some and said that they sold as soon as they were put out. The G&T crisps are mostly lime flavoured, not that great really.

Also, it's 'German Week' so there are lots of varieties of German sausage etc. on sale - which may have contributed to our spend...

Do watch out for anything labelled 'German style', e.g the canned soups. Grim English versions of the real McCoy.

If you think Lidl and Aldi are cheap here, in their home countries they are stupidly cheap. Was amazing.

Frozen lobsters are very watery and not that pleasant. Quite small too.
