Which of the discounters is it that does the dirt cheap lobsters?
@soad Agreed, not that wonderful.

Maine tails are better for both texture and flavour. Waitrose do them on offer at two for £10.

Lidl have just started doing tails and are a similar price. We have some in the freezer to test against Waitrose offerings and will report back post munchies.

Frozen lobsters are very watery and not that pleasant. Quite small too.
They are in Lidl. I have one in the freezer. My next door neighbour has just told me that they are quite tough. I might have mine tomorrow. If I do, then I will report back.

Done once and never again, would rather get it from a place like Waitrose and pay for the taste.

voucher thing sounds interesting, is it in store or online?

I'm not sure which voucher you are referring to. I think that I have mentioned a £5 discount voucher in the past. This often appears in the Daily Mail on Saturdays. My OH checks the DM when we shop at Lidl on Saturdays. If it contains the voucher, she gets the paper. She then presents the voucher at the till. We end up saving £4.10.

Aldi have Canadian cranberries in. £1.29/300g. Made a very nice cranberry sauce and will be making Christmas jam tomorrow. They are the cheapest I've found and lovely quality.

I think it's the 50% and 25% off vouchers in Lidl's Christmas brochure that are being referred to. I think they're for instore use only - I don't think Lidl do online sales.

Oh dear. In my town we have aldi, lidl, netto, norma etc etc, and one culinara (edeka) which is great but damn expensive.

Netto shares bottom place in my opinion, along with norma

It's the Christmas brochure not the weekly leaflet.
Page 35 opposite the picture of the Deluxe serrano ham leg - and the Charcuterie feature there is a red card perforated voucher insert.

Where is the brochure usually? Online leaflet is the same as the printed ones in store.

I picked the brochure up instore Sunday. There's 90 pages in it,and the money off vouchers are headlined (2nd headline) on the front cover so it's not store specific.

Once you get past the first inch or so (use for bacon) it's worth it and would get again

Mine was good. I've had better, but not at anything like that price.

You will need a stand and a proper ham knife.

This is the one that I bought - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0062X0SU6?psc=...

Slicing the ham with our other knives was bloody hard work, this knife makes it a doddle.

I had mine last night. The tail meat was very tough. The claw meat was tender. Neither had much taste, and overall it was very watery. When I cut it in half, I pressed my thumb into the tail meat. Water streamed out as if I were squeezing a wet sponge.

I wouldn't bother again even if they were free.

+1. I've bought them a few times, and last time when they were less than half price. A big dassapointment, you get more in three large prawns and they taste way better. The only use I've found for these lobsters is in a pasta dish and as said the meat is chewy to say the least. I suppose I'm spoiled a bit as I've found a fisher man at a local farmers market, he brings a few good size lobsters which sell from £7.50 - £15 each.

I could have spent hours in the Edeka in Herbolzheim. It was tiny but put the UK to shame. Funny how memories like that stick with you. They had Persian blue sea salt which I have only ever found in Harrods since then. I do love a good German supermarket.
