Crikey, there's some proper precious boys opnions on here.
It's an Aldi / Lidl thread.
Who gives a toss what Gino says?
Lidl baked beans are OK and Aldi sweetcorn is great.
Paul Young thinks Gino is a bit of a cock.

Falco thinks his st stinks and he can't piss straight.

Had steak from Aldi tonight with their vine tomatoes roasted in balsamic, so tasty (steaks cooked brilliantly by me I might add).

Ive allways been impressed by the steaks at aldi, sometimes there are a few ropy looking ones on the shelf but if you take 5 minutes to pick through them you can find some really nice pieces of meat.

Have yet to try the Aldi steaks, but the Lidl deluxe sirloin/fillets are really good. Just tried the Lidl thousand day aged sirloin roast. Seriously seriously good.

I thought beef steers were normally slaughtered at around 18 months old. This thousand day lark sounds interesting.

LOL. Indeed, Lidl steak is excellent.

Bob (the cat) also loves it. He's a discerning beast, I can tell you.

My Mogs are more fishy.....one goes bananas for Brill but the other goes decidedly psychotic, I kid you not, if there's Vietnamese sausage about and she thinks she's not getting her fair share..

Don't start me on their passion for prawns! A folie a deux !

We started shopping here in October instead of spending a fortune in Asda and the savings are phenomenal! Cant really fault Aldi on terms of quality of food! Meats are brilliant and reasonably priced. 1kg chicken breasts are a bargain and last us ages!

Only things I don't like about our local Aldi are that its really small, so its like trying to slalom through the shoppers and at the till they practically throw your shopping at you without getting a chance to stick it in the trolley!

Overall I think its brilliant!

p.s Chicken jalfrezi from there is amazing!

Wifey and I had a couple of rib-eyes from Lidl on Friday, and they were indeed delicious.

Their shallots, garlic and avocados are much nicer than any of the other local supermarkets.

The checkout operators have to meet targets of so many items scanned per hour, all about getting people through as quickly as possible with as little checkout operators employed as possible, saves costs and keeps prices low I'd imagine. The trick is either have a box in the bottom of your trolley to pack straight into or just lump everything in the trolley and pack into a big Aldi bag back at the car yes

it's how the German model of supermarket shopping works - you thorw it all back into the trolley and then pack at your leisure at the packing benches away from the tills

That's the reason they have the shelves at the side, so you don't have to pack at the till.
Think there's a sign in the shops to that effect.

I think it's great, saves being stuck behind people fannying around.

I agree, I can't be bothered using the packing shelf though so usually have the bag in the boot of the car, if I forget to put it back then we'll just pick up a box or two (the big rigid ones the fruit and veg are in are good) and use those.
