The two pack of Schnitzel in Aldi is pretty good - combined with the "specially selected" baby potato salad you get an easy, quick & decent meal for 2 for under £3!

Another vote for this, it's excellent. Mrs SB voted it better than M&S.

I've put a date in my diary.

Had some from the Worcester ASDA a while back and it was lovely...

I think wagyu / kobe is a bit of a marketing scam... its no better or worse than any good quality cut of meat and this whole 'we massage the cows' nonsense is exactly that... nonsense.

I'm out camping for a bit and was passing an Aldi on one side of the road and a Lidl on the other so I decided to grab some food... purely from this wagyu thing I decided Aldi would do, to see if they had any other decent stuff.

I was cooking on a portable bbq so limited in what I could reasonably prepare - I went simple with half a kg of thinly sliced supposedly good quality beef, and some sliced mushrooms to cook in butter. A french crusty baguette would make easy to make/eat sandwiches.

I have to say, I'm disappointed. The meat wasn't the best quality, given the price. The bread was fine and fresh at least. What was more disappointing was the complete lack of choice. There seemed to be the occasional half decent looking thing (smoked salmon, some cheese)... but most looked like either cheap crap (most of the burgers, the full chickens), had a very poor lack of choice (bread, olives) or was completely non existent (chilled beer, nuts, tin foil, kopparberg or other non apple cider)

I could scrape together a meal for one, even if it wasn't the best. No way you could manage a weekly shop there. For me thats a killer - I need to go to one supermarket and get everything... if I'm going to run around from shop to shop then I might as well use butchers, bakers, etc etc

I won't be going back. I've no idea why anyone goes at all.

No idea, the most expensive one that looked thin enough to go in sandwiches easiest, since I had no cutlery. I did try and buy some, but Aldi don't sell that either! It was poor in comparison to similarly priced meat from Intermarche/Continente/Pingo Dolce (all regular supermarkets) and way way worse than what the same money would have got me at a local butcher.

Its a sad day when you make a beef steak sandwich on a real barbeque, and the best bit of the meal was the chocolate cookies you ate after it.

I'd agree that the 28-day ribeye from Lidl is pretty good. However it's wet aged rather than dry aged.

I've had the best results from chopping it up into steak haché rather than cooking it 'whole' as it were.

If you want good quality / reasonable value for money in the UK, I think Costco are hard to beat.

Have you tried Lidl's steaks, either their aged or deluxe range? They are surprisingly good.

Got some of these on the BBQ now from Lidl. Way better than the aldi meat, and the shop in General was just so much better.bigger shop though so not a brilliant comparison I suppose
