Dont they have them all the time ?
Worth trying for the novelty, but really I'd rather stick to their beefsteak range. Their steaks (particularly the deluxe &/or aged range), are particularly good. The kanga meat is similar to venison, a little tougher, and to my mind has less flavour.

Live dangerously.

made a point of going to Aldi the other day, as never been..... bought some stuff... and to be honest wasn't particularly impressed with the meat..... how ever the veg was far superior in terms of freshness proper spring onions, rather then the Tesco offering.......

best bargain just recently was from B&M Homestore and it was tika paste at 25p/ pack..... very good indeed for BBQ meat marinade

It needs to be at the very least medium rare.

Do not overcook it. It is so lean that it turns into show leather easily.

Do you get the Lidl ´Bellarom´ Nespresso capsules in the UK? I just came across them and they´re really rather good.

Sorry to hijack the Aldi thread!

Wagyu Beef 8oz Rib Eye Steak
Wagyu Beef 8oz Sirloin Steak

Both the same price 227g £6.99 or £30.79 per kg

https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thursday-12t...

https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thursday-12t...

Looks like its only on for a week or so, so probably a loss leader just to ps off the other supermarkets.

I think wagyu / kobe is a bit of a marketing scam... its no better or worse than any good quality cut of meat and this whole 'we massage the cows' nonsense is exactly that... nonsense.

I'm out camping for a bit and was passing an Aldi on one side of the road and a Lidl on the other so I decided to grab some food... purely from this wagyu thing I decided Aldi would do, to see if they had any other decent stuff.

I was cooking on a portable bbq so limited in what I could reasonably prepare - I went simple with half a kg of thinly sliced supposedly good quality beef, and some sliced mushrooms to cook in butter. A french crusty baguette would make easy to make/eat sandwiches.

I have to say, I'm disappointed. The meat wasn't the best quality, given the price. The bread was fine and fresh at least. What was more disappointing was the complete lack of choice. There seemed to be the occasional half decent looking thing (smoked salmon, some cheese)... but most looked like either cheap crap (most of the burgers, the full chickens), had a very poor lack of choice (bread, olives) or was completely non existent (chilled beer, nuts, tin foil, kopparberg or other non apple cider)

I could scrape together a meal for one, even if it wasn't the best. No way you could manage a weekly shop there. For me thats a killer - I need to go to one supermarket and get everything... if I'm going to run around from shop to shop then I might as well use butchers, bakers, etc etc

I won't be going back. I've no idea why anyone goes at all.
Was this in the UK? I've been disappointed by Aldi in Germany, seems they stock very different things in the UK shops.

Lidl has Asian stuff in at the moment. I've been most impressed by prawn crackers, ginger and garlic scented stir fry oil, and wasabi cashews.

ah there lies the issue, the meat available in the uk is far higher quality than that I see in the french stores . The UK meat is mostly UK sourced whereas the french stuff is all french sourced and the poorer for it. I wonder where they source the meat in portugal from?

Nah I already had that, but I think they sell it too?? Pretty much every supermarket sells Sagres and Superbock??

Those prawns were brilliant, I done close to 1kg of them myself. Dogs polished off all the heads and tails that I didn't eat. Happy days laugh

I tried getting the Wagyu beef, but alas they were all sold at 7.30am according to the manager. I went with a bit of 28day matured rib-eye and I thought i was delicious, much better than the likes of Tesco and Asda offerings.

I'm also pretty impressed with their Ginger beer too, not as sweet as Old Jamaica but good nevertheless. Their Dairyfine Giant buttons are something between Galaxy & Dairy Milk. Didnt rate their Cheerios though
