Need to rename the thread - ALDI Food Worth Stealing?

I was in the local store at the weekend and noticed for the first time that they have security on the doors and in store!

I was a bit taken aback and tried to have a chat with one of the very heavy blokes, he wasn't at all interested so I left it. (I guess me asking whether this 200 pound of blubber was getting paid in cash or donuts didn't help)

This afternoon I was in there and chatted with their top store manager, we are both on first name terms, he always asks about little Ex and I always ask about his family back in Poland wink

I inquired about the security staff. He told me they are losing so much stock that isn't going through the tills that it has become necessary to employ two security guards!

Who knows where their stock is going? They certainly don't! I inquired about the fact that the whole place is CCTV'd up to the nines, the manager told me they can't watch it all.

I gave the manager a nod and a wink saying, once you know where the out flow is, tell me and we'll split everything 50-50!

hehe

Our Lidl giving discount vouchers for £5 off £30 of shopping. Maybe worth a visit see if it's more widespread.

Only jealous. Mmmm discount. Voucher every visit today. Going to struggle to spend £90 though.

I had a lovely salad made from LIDL ingredients this week, including their crayfish and avocado.

Their avocados are tastier and cheaper than those from WRose.

Im sure they are. I don't think there's a huge difference in the quality/prices between Aldi and Lidl.

They both have similar business models which benefit customers. I don't eat breakfast cereals, but if I did, would I really need an enormous aisle of choice?

It's no exaggeration to say that the cereals aisles in my nearest Tesco Megastore in themselves constitute a significant percentage of my local Lidl's total floorspace.

And, they have better cars in the car park smile

Last night had the rump steak and a bottle of Malbec. All excellent stuff and v good value, less than £15 for 3 of us.

Visited the brand new store in Skipton, there seemed to be a definite improvement in quality of the store compared to other local ones, notably with the lack of 'random tat' for sale. I wonder if there's some discretion by the manager as to what they stock?

One customer was very disappointed they didn't have fresh duck!

with reference to the random tat , i never seem to see anybody buying any of it . obviously someoeone does or they would not sell it .
although i did buy a cordless nailgun from there a few years ago that was really good.
they do have some obvious gaps in their range , for example like a lot of us i like chilli sauce . aldi only sell one variety and it is a sweet chilli. most supermarkets have started to keep several types now

Lidl doesn't normally have much on the chilli front frown However Leatherhead Lidl has Scotch Bonnet chillies at the moment at 55p for a pack of three.

Elsewhere locally these are at least £1 a pack - although £1.50 a pack isn't unheard of - if you can even find them.

I used two packs of chillies, with a 40p bunch of spring onions and a £2.30 1.5Kg pack of chicken thighs and drumsticks. A total of £3.80 for a delicious jerk chicken meal for two, plus enough to take to work for lunch next day. Noms.

Indeed, plonk me in an ALDI or LIDL and I don't think I'd be able to which one I was in.

Regarding random tat I don't buy it, but my Dad does. He comes home with all sorts of random rubbish, clearly the audience they are aiming at!

The random tat isn't all tat. I bought an angle grinder and an orbital sander years ago. Both have been hammered to death and refuse to die.

Just been using the SDS+ drill from Aldi to chase out some cabling channels in the kitchen. Did in 10 minutes what would have taken hours with a hammer & chisel. Drill plus bit set was £55 & worth every penny.

Is it a Parkside one? I had a green one that died very quickly, but the older red model just keeps on going! In fact they might have been from Lidl....

Oh right, I have a workforce wet tile cutter, weighs a lot too (for it's size).
