My scotch bonnet got very dry then very wet and all the leaves fell off but has 3 fruit still growing.

The habernero is growing slowly but the waterlogged ground isn't helping much.
you have it in the ground? why dont you have it in pot? they aid in drainige, and dont really get waterlogged like the ground.

edit: although I might be wrong, Im not really that clued up on plants an growing them, thats just what I think as the pots have holes that allow excess water out.

So, the chilli plants appear to be doing quite well though I have one little problem... tiny black flies that I think are fungus gnats... can anyone tell me how to get rid of them please? We've just come back from a fortnight away and my neighbour has over watered them (I think), hence the infestation. The wife has told me to sort it or she's binning them (doesn't like flies in the house with a 9 month old baby).

There appears to be quite a few 'eggs' on the underside of the leaves too...

Is it too late or is there anything I can do?

A quick Google suggests repotting in fresh compost then putting a layer of gravel on top of the compost but what about the eggs?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I sprayed my chillies with some stuff from the garden centre called 'bug clear' I think...

It might work for you ?

Bugs were dead the next day, and I wiped the bodies off with a cloth..

Gave them a second spray on Sunday, and there is no sign of a repeat attack, yet...

chillis looking healthier too, so think I just need to keep a close eye out for round two..

Hmmm some of the leaves on my Numex Twilight are going a bit yellow.

It lives on the window sill in the kitchen, could this be too much/not enough water/nutrients?

Nimbus, randomly bought some of that at B&Q at lunchtime, plan is to try that first to hopefully kill the flies and the eggs, wipe clean the plants/leaves/etc, the re-pot into bigger pots with fresh compost, then cover the top of that to prevent further attack... sound like a plan?

the leaves on my chilli plants are going a bit yellow and they don't seem to be growing quite so fast... any thoughts on why? (they live outside in pots, normally around 15 degrees at night and 20 - 20 in the day at the moment... do they not like too much watering?)

Overwatering, plus it's too cold/dark.

Mine are on a south-facing windsill but aren't doing very well either.

Not an easy year (again). In my greenhouse the Apache are doing well, with lots of bigger-than-normal chillies, whereas the Scotch Bonnet, zip so far.

Iirc they like being left to dry a bit before watering, rather than keeping permanently moist (though I could be wrong).

Ours seem to be ok so far. They were propagated from seed in Feb, and the last re-pot we did was two weeks ago into 8" diameter pots then put outside.

I'm just slightly worried that it's been slatting it down with rain since then, and although the pots have drainage holes they may drown. They're flowering though, so I could just be concerned over nothing.

I’ve been away for a couple of week and came back to find most of my capsicums were doing ok. My apaches are ripening, my big banana has grown to 8” and purple tiger has loads of pods. My younger plants aren’t doing too badly but my Californian Wonder has been almost completely eaten by slugs and the others have varying degree of damage, I have put them back in the conservatory to recover.

I wasn't terribly clear (what's new?) They are in huge containers but still seem overly soggy.

I've just ordered a rain butt. Goodness knows why.

This is the first year in about 15 years that my plants outside have struggled, it's been far too cold and wet for them, I don't have room to bring them all in so I think it's the compost heap for them. frown

On the plus side my bananas are going mental biggrin

Birdseye Chilli hedge

and the Bhut Jolokia

Just harvested the Bhuts and got about 700g. These have been made into Sambal Trasi for use over the next year with lime juice, salt, sugar and dried shrimp. Needs to be dispensed by the molecule !

If you're allowed to take that on the plane, may be nice to bring some to BTaP? hehe

The Scotch Bonnets are struggling, they seem to have reached a size and just stopped growing, no flowers or anything yet. frown

Twilights are looking good though and we should have a decent haul off it.

As far as I'm aware there is no problem in taking stuff out of Aus and no restrictions into the UK (unlike the other way round where even sweets are considered dangerous). I'll see if I can get some delivered to the UK.
