An autumn update smile

so, I now have 3 good plants, with lots of chillis on them, but only 1 has gone from purple to red...

But I reckon I can eat the purple ones ?

Of the other plants, I gave out 3 to friends, 1 got eaten by greenfly ! and the other 2 are doing well, but appear to have a totally different shape of chilli on them ! ( more like scotch bonnets..)

Anyhow, here's some piccies, considering the greenfly attacks, and rubbish summer, I reckon they've done ok for a first attempt smile

I can reliably inform you that growing plants outside is a bad plan.

They have all died.

Next year will be an inside job.

I grew so many this year I had some outside and some inside. Those inside have done far better for crop.

My Bhut Jolokia's have been the most successful this year, though the plants are huge and have taken over my living room.

I made some really good chilli Jam with these, Very hot and sweet and goes with almost anything :-)

Ah ha! You're the person who stole all the nice growing weather!!

Will have a proper go next year and hope for better results.

Try growing them in Manchester! disastrous crop this year, I feel like I have weighed out around £300 for pots, soil, seeds, food and wooden grow houses for a return of about 10 chillies!!

Haha

These pics are about a month old, I have just taken my first harvest off of all of them now except the bit Friars Hat (6ft tall now) for some reason this one fruits very late I had chillies still growing on it in January this year! Best crop this year so far have been the Dorset Nagas and the scotch bonnets but I have seven other variety a to choose from biggrin just on the first batch of chillie sauce now which had 6 Nagas and 2 trinidad Scorpians in it plus a feck load of the otherssmokin

Our birds eye and bhuts are just starting their 3rd season (outdoors) and are putting on new growth and flowers. Will be joined by jalopeno, Dorset naga and habeneros this year.

The 3 Bhut Jolokia are looking better and even produced small fruit over the winter

Just spotted this thread. My greenhouse is rammed with chilli plants, but what a crap summer ! I've suffered with whitefly and lack of heat and have lots of small green chillis that show no sign of ripening. I've given a few plants away and moved a couple into my office, but it looks like most will succumb to the cold before bearing decent fruit. Ditto my tomatoes frown

Any tips on how to get a 'head start' next year ?
When did you start germinating?

I started mine (in a heated propagator) in early March, and that clearly wasn't early enough.

I'd forgotten (old age sucks) that many years ago, I would start my 'hemp' seeds on Christmas Day, and always got a decent crop from the greenhouse come summer.

A lesson there, methinks.

We managed to to harvest the Naga Jalokia chillies yesterday, about 50% ripe but starting to reach the end of their season so picked them all, got 800gs of red and 768gs of green (just as fking hot) smokin

Gonna try and ferment them into a Tabasco style sauce and also attempt lime pickle, they may be a little hot though!!!
