I don't eat a lot of ice cream but aside from the really nice stuff I had in Italy my most memorable was at a place in Bakewell, a bit of google action reveals it to be Fredericks: http://www.fredericksicecreams.co.uk/

Bizarrely they've started flogging Mackie's crisps, which I'm convinced are laced with crack as they are ridiculously more-ish. Isn't what everyone believes that is Mackie's Vanilla flavour actually just ice cream without added flavour?

I just looked at their website as I'd never heard of them, but will definitely drop in to check them out. However +1 for the Jody Scheckter buffalo stuff. Also, go to Buenos Aires for the best ice cream in the world, Chungo and Freddo are both amazing. Freddo have an outlet in London called Freggo (due to trademark issues I think) but I haven't been to see if it's as good as in the mother country.

I can imagine that buffalo stuff would be good - the cream of the milk that I have tasted would be the thing.
Its all about quality ingredients and the right mix - butter cream is one key factor. And from that I suggest :
Harbour Bar on Scarborough sea front. Its hard living by the sea - hard resisting getting the car and nipping down for one - and a good job we are not a ten minute walk away.

The best Ice cream I have ever had is made by Movenpick. I had it in a restaurant in Hong Kong and then found out that Shake a way sell if back at home.

V8mate said: I've never had good ice cream in this country. Not once. In a bizarre multi-cultural step, you don't have to walk more than a few hundred yards in Germany to find an 'Italian' ice cream cafe, all of which sell the most divine ice creams - all of their fruit variants in particular actually taste of the fruit described. Banana ice cream, for example, tastes of fresh ones of these rather than of these I make my own banana ice cream, it consists of bananas, fresh cream, full fat milk, castor sugar and a bit of banana liquer to stop it going rock hard in the freezer. I once made a coconut with cherrybrandy ice cream that was utterly perfect in every way but I was a bit pissed from a sunday lunchtime session down the club so I can't remember how I made it

Kelly's for supermarket ice cream
Oddono's and Gelato Mio for ice cream parlour stuff.
The lychee sorbet at oddono's makes an annual appearance for a few weeks and is just the best sorbet you'll ever eat

Anyone near the Wirral pop along to Parkgate, great chippy and two competing ice creameries next door to each other - it's a nice summer drive out as well
