If you want some really good Fish & Chips without the trail to Whitby , try the Kingisher Calder Grove near the M1 jnt 39 No connection with the place (get it) just a customer passing on info

The chips look crap, the fish is too small, and the mushy peas are too watery.
Fail. Fail. Fail.

Peas in a separate little pot - far too poncy.
I'm glad you enjoyed them though OP.

Looks like the sort of sanitised version of fish and chips that southerners love to eat, served on a fancy plate with a tidy little pot of peas and a pretentious slice of lemon. Wheres the cheapo tray and the naff wooden fork? Or the s tty greaseproof paper that rips away all the batter so you have to get down and dirty and lick it off.

Must be a beef-dripping-fried Northern chip on your shoulder?

Looks nice I find MASSIVE portions of fish offputting though mushy peas in a pot is a no-no for me.

Having moved to Nottingham from Manchester I have noticed there's a mix of North and South going on in their chippies.
You can get chips and gravy. And a savaloy.
"And what's a savaloy?" to quote the Macc Lads.
So, to maximise your culinary choice, stop a bit further down the M1 - J26 should do it.

It's consistently good, always busy, decent value if you go for the fish platter and Their battered salmon is a winner. The chips are good too. There is a brilliant chippy a few streets back which I also think is excellent. I can't remember the name but they do crinkle cut chips and it has a blue front.

That plate of fish and chips does look a bit naff. I had some decent fish and chips the last time I was in Hawes in Yorkshire. Not that there much else to see/do/eat in Hawes.
