Why put the peas on top of the chips?

Our usual order is 1 large cod, 1 large portion of chips (depending on who is serving we go for large (for the skinflint) or medium for the younger one who piles them on) and 2 battered sausages, pot of mushy peas and 2 cans of Rio for me and 'er indoors - £12.80

They do a Thame Burger though ('The Chippy' for anyone familiar with thame) which is about a fiver, and is 2 1/2 pounders, ring of pineapple, 2 fried eggs and a few slices of bacon, that's a good burger! Depends on who is serving as to how good it is though, the guy who works there does it well as he says '15 mins', rather than one of the girls who get it out in 8 and it's not quite as good.

Fish and chips with mushy pea's from the local shop. Fish is about 6-7 cm thick. Cost about £6.50

Fish, chips, peas & roe. My favourite combination beer

Circa £4.50 from Doncaster Market. The best I've had in years.
Nice smile

Is the chip shop obvious to find when at the markets? I might try it next time I'm there.

It was really good. Fish was really thick and cooked to perfection with really thin crisp batter. Thats a medium fish i have just realised. I did see a post in here that alluded to those not living by the coast not knowing what a large fish is but i would have to disagree. Having eaten F&C by the sea at many places I'm yet to find anywhere that is better that a good black country chippy.

I was in the Wetherby branch yesterday, in the restaurant. Large haddock, chips, peas, bread & butter, pot of tea was £13.40

That batter's too thick. It should be light and bubbly. It also seems quite pricy for oop North.

Locally the decent one in Redcar is £5.10 for fish and chips, and I think the other good one In Saltburn is about the same.

Now admittedly it's a subsidised works canteen but Haddock, chips and peas or beans, £2! Pretty good too and you can choose breaded or battered. From the chippy it's £6 for a large fish supper.

£6+ here in central Scotland for a large fish supper which I think is a total rip off.
