I saw this thread and then thought it has been 10 years since we went into a chippy.

So have no idea what it now costs.

Just to let you know if that was a quid it definitely isn't cod. What you have there is a fillet of pangasius. Which is from the catfish family.
if he's lucky.

There was a time when most cod was haddock but i believe cod is getting cheaper again which is a shame because haddock is actually more tasty.

I live near a fishing port in the north west most decent chippies are now charging over a fiver, the best one within range of my house is £6 something.

I'm more of a babies head sort though me.

Im gradually ticking off the chip shops in Whitby, all I can say is avoid the Royal on Baxtergate, the worst chips I've ever had. Whitby must have the largest concentration of chip shops anywhere in the UK...

Hadleys, Bridge Street
Robersons, Bridge St
Mr Chips, Bridge Street
The Middle Chippy, Bridge Street
Riverside Fisheries, Bridge Street
Russels, St Anns Staith
Quayside, Pier Road
Magpie, Pier Road
Trenchers, New Quay Road
Royal, Baxtergate
Silver Street Chip Shop
Railway, Fishburn Road

Generally about 6 or 7 I think. Cheaper places but you get what you pay for. The place I go to get some gluten-free battered for the mrs will lighten your pocket £20 for haddock and chips twice, fortunantly its pretty damn good.
