bks........ Chef's Larder.
Interesting. Never heard of them. Where can you get them. I'm always up for trying a new baked bean!
Chefs larder is a brand comonly found in the hospitality trade so it should be available from almost every cash and carry.

The only problem is that it will come in catering size tins.
This is correct, and I'm the very trade.
What the hell I am going to do with a tin of beans the size of an oil drum? If it isn't in a 410g tin, you can poke it!

I'm sure HP beans disappeared when Branston ones arrived.
I'm convinced they are the same recipe.

Definitely not the same, HP are owned by Heinz and HP Beans are still made although may be harder to find than Heinz, Branston or O/L

What quantifies the ulimate baked beans?

For me, it's a rich and thick gloopy sauce. You know you're in for dissapointment when you open the tin and theres a no sign of beans, just a pinkish grey sauce at the top.

I'm the only baked bean eater in our household, so don't stick as much as I used to, but have always been a Heinz fan - may have to try the Branston based on your comments.

What I have bought this week, as I'm a sucker for a gimmick, is Tescos own Bloody Mary baked beans. Will let you know what they're like in the next day or so.

Baked beans, (Branston), with melted cheddar cheese and bits of fried bacon all mixed together. Add one drop of Dave's Insanity Sauce.

Beat me to it, I love these.

My mate used to make his own with smoked ham hocks and molasses in Boston, these are the closest I've come to.

That does sound quite good actually. I have ~5 tins of Heinz baked beans sitting in the cupboard that no one has eaten (been there a year or so) so I might have to give this a go! Would be interested to hear more recipes smile
