The best lager on sale in the UK, suggestions please

Peroni is just another nice refreshing lager isn't it? Becks, Kronenberg and the like are all nice but my palate clearly isn't sophisticated to tell them much apart, taste-wise. As most places can't seem to clean their pipes properly they tend to taste like metal regardless.
I do like a pint of Budvar, or a bottle of Bangla when I'm having a curry and looking forward to my friend replacing Carlsberg with Oranjeboom in the pub he manages.

Replacing carlsberg with orangeboom? Given he was arcing carlsberg at all probably means his customers are NOT going to buy a pint of orangeboom for £5 that comes with a wedge of orange!!!

Heineken used to be brewed in the UK when it was 3.9%.
When it moved to 5% a few years back i believe they started importing it from Holland.
It's a minefield, it really is. When it moved to 5% a few years back i believe they started importing it from Holland.
I found this , which seems to put most of it in some kind of order

I might have missed it, but no mention of any Bavarian lagers, that I can see? (Lowenbrau got a mention, but I suspect the stuff in British pubs and bars isn't brewed in Bavaria and it's always seen as a low end beer there).
I'm a big fan of the products of the Spaten brewery. They're not seen as a 'premium' beer in Bavaria, but their Franziskaner Weissbier is lovely, I think and their Lagers are excellent too.
You can often get them through Majestic Wines and sometimes in supermarkets.
Of stuff I've seen regularly in UK pubs/bars, Becks is probably my favourite for its clean taste (I used to love Stella, but it tastes a bit artificial to me these days) and Kirin is very good.
Peroni/Stella/Kronenbourg 1664 I tend to view as drinkable beer lager, rather truly 'Premium' in the sense that they actually taste better

Anything from or around Munich is good for me.
Paulaner was a personal favourite until seemingly everywhere in Munich stopped serving it and replaced it with Hofbrau, which only really works in the Hofbrauhaus in plentiful Maß orders.
Franziskaner was lovely, Lowenbrau not bad and Augustiner lovely too.
Tried some kind of treacle beer in the Lowenbraukeller and it was awful mind.
Over here, Staropramen is great if you can get it, I only know of one place that sells it in St. Helens and it's not a great place to go for a beer. Peroni is dogste.

Aldi gets it hands on 'premium' products sometimes, it's not all cheap, just cheap prices.
I cannot stand Peroni, it has a nasty aftertaste.
I haven't seen Carling Premier for years, looks like they still make it.

Check out: http://www.westbeer.com/ . Went for a brewery tour there and she explained that all their beers are lagers (because of the process they are made, rather than tasting a particular way).
