My Local sells San Miguel so I have got kind of hooked on that now.
I really enjoy Kirin-Ichiban when I can find it-only place near me is in Weybridge.
Cobra and Tiger are very good too.

I like Oranjeboom - will always have that if it's on tap.

If I'm in the supermarket I will always go for Heineken.

If on a night out, will go for Desperado's if they are being sold.

I also really like the 'proper' American lagers like Sam Adams' Boston Lager not that gross Bud stuff.

Moving away from lagers, I love Sierra Nevada or any decent IPA really... BrewDog is always pretty tasty.

Disappointingly pistonhead lager tastes like any generic lager

A couple of breweries local to me now produce some cracking lager.

Andwells pilsner from the Andwell brewery near Hook, Hampshire
Hogs back Hog-star from the hogs back brewery in Tongham.

Both really tasty pure brewed lagers, both of which are available on tap or in bottles.

I am, by profession, a beer ponce.

Uk Lagers:

Camden Town Hells
Meantime Pilsner
Thornbridge Kill Your Darlings
Chapel Down Curious

Rest of the World:

Birrificio Italiano Tipopils*
Brooklyn Lager
Pilsner Urquell
Victory Prima Pils

  • My favourite lager in the whole wide world. I could drink buckets and buckets of the stuff.

I do find it odd that some of the beers mentioned on here, and quite good some of them are too, are sold in the UK as premuim when infact in their home markets they are seen very average!

The Prima Pils you can buy online here http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/victory-prima-pils But I have seen it on decent specialist beer shops too.

Tipopils is a trickier beast. Their website lists a few draught stockists, but the Brewery Bar at Camden Town Brewery is where I usually get my stash.

Proper strength Becks and it must be in cans is my go to beer. £3 for 4 at Asda at the mo. Only Asda and sainsburys sem to stock the cans. The imported 500 ml cans are still 5% if,you can find 'em.

When find it on draft it is always a good day

not another beer that is being watered down ?

getting silly now, with Stella and Carlsberg export amongst others. I just buy polish stuff in tins now because they don't mess about, and the taste is much less 'watery' than the established euro fizz brands we usually find in this country.

The best lager beer as far as I'm concerned is Harp lager. Followed by Budweiser. Everything else is pish except for Corona which is nice with a wedge of lime on a warm Summers day. So for me its:

1. Harp
2. Budweiser
3. Corona

Its all a matter of personal taste though isn't it? For example Carlsberg to me taste like battery acid but I know people who swear by it. Whats your no. 1 okgo?

I have moved away from lager generally as I think the IPA you can find in most London pubs now is so good that I don't have to go for mainstream lager.

However, at a push, Peroni, Camden Hells Lager, London Lager from Meantime.

Corona is a very weather-dependent beer. Nobody's ever enjoyed a Corona in the winter, but on a hot summer's day, sat outside, a Corona and Lime hits the spot.

Especially if you can find it on tap.

End of thread.
One of my favourite drinks, is it lager?
what types of yeast are used and what temperature is it fermented at ...

bottom fermenting yeast and cool fermentation = lager

top fermenting yeast and 'warm' fermentation = ale
