I really enjoy a pint of:
Estrella
San Miguel
Amstel
Coors
Kozel

When having a BBQ there is nothing better than quite a few ice cold stubby beers from Sainsburys.....and Corona!

I tried for the first time the other day a Desparados, christ that is bloody horrible.
In my case an Orangieboom, as imported Stella was unavailable. oh, dear what a mistake. Yeuch! almost poured one away, chilled other to death to obliterate the malt taste that is put into no alcohol " beer"

Had a pint of that in Dublin a couple of days ago. Was expecting a lot but it came across as bland, hardly any more taste than a pint of session lager.

Hogsback brewery Hogstar is the stuff you want if hoppy lagers are your thing.

St Mungo is great, if you like that you should try Tempest's Easy Livin'. I've seen it in some supermarkets but most reliably in Aldi.

Brugse Zot.

Stopped at the brewery on the way back from Germany.

My new favourite drop. Bar none.

Travelling light I bought 3 nice big fat bottles to take home but stupidly left them in a chocolatiers. Gutted.

Not a bad tipple. I went to the brewery and sampled a couple along with the exquisite Straffe Hendrick quadruple which I can now buy locally. Only got a couple left in the house frown

For the past year or so, one of my favourites has been Brooklyn Lager. Been available in bottles for a bit, and It's becoming more popular on tap too. A bit pricier than some though - £6 for four. Still, I'd rather pay a little more to get something I really enjoy.

I'm more of a real ale fan. One thing that I have noticed is that lagers are brewed for the local market. Heinicken in Ireland is completely different to the Heinicken that you get here.

Lidl do a Heatherwood (Number 2) lager. It is a cross between an ale and a lager. It is very nice at £1.25 a half litre.

The mega brewery owned brands are brewed that way as it's cheaper to brew locally than to import. It's why I'm always suspicious of import brands that are brewed under license here. There are some that I'm sure are just bottled from the same vat with different labels.

Shipping beer is a very costly exercise.
Ive done quite a bit of work around supply chain with the likes of Inbev, Diageo, Molson etc. The vast majority brew close to the market to reduce their logistics spend - Carling is even brewed in Spain specifically for the brits on holiday...

I once questioned why Stella tasted better in Belgium and made people distinctly less 'fighty' - which wasn't a question they particularly liked!

Apparently it's exactly the same everywhere - they strip the local water of everything then put in the exact same quantity of minerals etc to reflect the water in Leuven. Supposedly this is standard practise amongst all the brewers who produce 'in market'. They were adamant about the fact that it's exactly the same product wherever you drink it.

I maintain that Stella tastes far better in Belgium and Kronenburg much nicer in France - but apparently this is psychosomatic
