Wifebeater will always be Wifebeater, no matter what fancy tag they give it.

Have you tried it? Nicest beer I've ever had.
I don't need to try it, as my comparisons will just reinforce my opinions,

Pasteurised, generic, InBev beers all largely taste the same.

I hope to one day reach your state of enlightenment where I can just dismiss something without even trying it. It must be amazing to know with absolute certainty what something will taste like without ever having seen it. Until then I'll just have to trudge along actually tasting stuff and then not bothering to buy again if I don't like it!!

I don't mind stella if it's served at the right temperature, but it doesn't half give me weird dreams the next morning.

Not really a lager man when in the UK. But when I have to, it's normally Red Stripe, or Meantime.

Of course, Cobra with a curry (it's the law!!) unless they have Honeydew

Especially if you can find it on tap.

End of thread.
Yep the Pale one (may not be lager) but beats lager hands down

If it has to be lager, then I rather like Peroni (awaits flaming)

Beer, like wine, whisky or Cognac should reflect its place of origin and the local traditions which created it.

The best ale comes from England, the best abbey beers come from Belgium and the best Pilsner style beers (on which generic global 'lagers' are based)come from the Czech Republic and Germany.

If 'lager' is your preferred style of beer, I recommend the following :

Pilsner Urquell
Budweiser Budvar (NOT the tasteless American rubbish!)
Warsteiner
Staropramen
Rothaus (my personal favourite).
thumbup Urquell or Staro for a daily drinker for me smile

Always had those for a few years so I've been trying something new recently, really enjoyed Paulaner & Franziskaner hefe weiss (bought quite a few of the latter as it's still on offer in Tesco biggrin I think they've stocked Weihenstephaner also which is supposed to be fantastic, although I've never seen it). I'd like to try the Kristall-weizens which sound like a subtler flavour without the yeast, even Beers of Europe never seem to have any in stock though frown. Must try to get hold of some Paulaner, Spaten and Augustiner helles too.

Starpraman and Peroni (both on tap) would be my top choices.

I was out in Liverpool last night and everybody seemed to be drinking this

I might give it a try next time, didn't have any last night as I was on cocktails with the Mrs.

Had Staropramen for the first time (!) last night, as it was on a promotion at the hotel we were at.

Very nice, I'll definitely be having it again.

Ive tried tons of different lagers, but always come back to Singha as being the absolute best.

Never had it in a can, but they now do 4 smaller bottles if there's anytime you dont want a large bottle full (cant imagine a time, but anyway)

I had some organic lager from Jody Scheckter's Laverstoke Park. Very crisp tasting. Waitrose sell them if you want to try it.

I love Sam Adams-I got hooked on it when I was in Boston about 8 years ago. Availability is getting a bit better for the standard variant but it's nigh on impossible to get any of the seasonal variants in the UK-Sam Adams Summer Ale does pop up every now and again (I've got 4 bottles left!). It's a shame Sam Adams is not sold on tap anywhere in the UK (not that I know of anyway). Tesco does stock it and dependent on what branch you go into, they can have a decent selection of other US Ales/lagers-why Budweiser is as popular as it is, I'll never know....
Sam Adams gets my vote too. I'm down to my last crate from Aldi as they used to stock it every July for their Independence Day range.

Sheperd Neame used to import it but they have now started to brew it under licence in the UK so I'm presuming this is what Tesco have started to stock as I found it hard to find till recently.

Who stocks the Summer Ale over here?

another plus 1 for the lidl perlenbecher pils, very nice drop.

Any lager fiends in/visiting london get over to belgo though... managed to sample about 6 on the last visit then went to a late gig in camden... oh dear me. Even the girlfriend was delighted with the gluten-free lager, says it's the best she's ever drank.
