I used to go to TGIs a lot years back, when it was a really cool American restaurant with good food. As time went on the food became blander and poor value and the experience changed to that of eating in a crap chain. The final straw came when they brought my favourite steak and garlic butter with literally five chips. I asked what happened to the rest of my chips to be told that 'we've reduced the portion size on this dish'. They didn't reduce the bloody price though and for the cost (nearly £50 for lunch for two) I figured could eat at somewhere in the Good Food Guide for less. Haven't returned since. The UK is poor at US chains. Chillis is a case in point, if you've ever been to one in the USA or elsewhere you'll be bitterly disappointed with the experience of the ones here.

I agree, I always go for the ribeye steak and they always seem to fk it up. out of the last 5 times they have overcooked mine 3 times and the replacement always takes ages to get ready and I totally agree with the pricing too, If it really wasn't for the JD sauce I wouldn't step foot in that place!

Double glazed ribs tried last week, in the A1 TGI's. Dive of a place and mediaocre service. £16.99 for some ok ribs but think I could do more at home for better. Meh

Next time I will suggest to the Mrs we drive onto the Ace and I can eat there! Although the bbq sauce was tasty I give it that.

Agree about TGIs and Chillis. Anyone remember the old TV advert that used to appear about 11.10pm on a Friday night? It had some gimpy badged-up barman asking us what we had been doing, as he'd been having a great time chucking bottles and other flairy queerness. If that's not an advert to encourage you not to go there I don't know what is!

And Chillis, on paper it a seemed great concept, the one in Reading opened up and we went there a few times and it just seemed to be completely ill-conceived. I remember on the stairs by the loos there were some pictures of a couple of the original chillis branches and some pics of a Texan chilli competition. They looked a million miles away from the squalor and drudgery of the Reading branch and I used to wonder how it had lost so much in translation.

Saying that, these concept bars probably aren't anything special in the states either.

And as for BBQ sauce - it's so, so easy to make your own - give it a go!

I love TGI's and always seem to have dishes with the JD sauce (what a coincidence). I usually get the chicken strips and double glazed JD ribs.

Went to America and tried them out there and have to say the ribs I have had in the uk were far better than the USA ones. However the last one I went to was in Times Square. Here I decided to try something new to the menu called JD pulled pork sandwich. Now I have to say this is the best thing I have ever eaten in a TGI's restaurant, hopefully it makes its way to the UK soon!

I can't wait to try pulled pork in NYC.

Reading is good, if you wanna hop on the bike and pop up for High Wycombe to try that one out, I'd happily meet you. Love the place. Love the glaze thumbup

Same recipe as I posted, 3rd post in the thread.

Someone needs to try it.
I've used a virtually identical recipe loads of times for BBQ's and its always gone down really well. With that recepipe from the link substitue the pineapple juice for white grape juice and the taste will be spot on!

Just looking at that recipe it asks for just 1 teaspoon of JD. It looks like over a pint of other liquids so not sure how you'd taste it!
