That is pretty representative of the consistency you get from that machine so at least it's honest!
I'm sure it can do better though!

Looks good. Does depend how much the hopper is though.

Apropos of nothing we were in an apartment over the weekend which had a Krups (IIRC) pod machine and a small supply of pods. I've never used one before so I tried the Costa and Kenco ones.

I can understand the convenience element to a degree but both really were awful, flavourless and nasty. Maybe it was old stock?

That's it, really.

I have never found a pod that makes a cup of very good coffee. At best it's like an acceptable instant coffee.

Not just me then. So you pay substantially more for a significantly inferior (well a different) product. Hmmm.

My OH bought some Illy pods, tried one as you do, my God they are truly disgusting frown

Comes to something when even she won't drink them!

I've got a Tassimo jobby. I've had it for a few months now. The 'milk' from the creamer pods taste a bit plasticy, but the coffe tastes very good. I want a decent bean to cup number with a steamer and a grinder. I was looking at that Heston Blumenthal machine a while back. It looks very good.

Wasn't aware of it, but looks good - gets great write ups from John Lewis customers.

I've been looking at the Fracino Piccino for some time now but my man maths isn't yet at the point where it can justify £550 to make some brews, especially when I need to spend another £150 on a grinder for it. coffee

You need to try harder!! It looks like a great machine, their Cherub machine came out just after I'd purchased mine or I would have gone for it, made in the UK as well, so you can add supporting local manufacturing bonus points to your man maths calculations biggrin

Yeah I know. :/ My original limit was about £300 and so was looking at something more 'mainstream' - there's the Gaggia Classic and Delonghi Magnifica which both get recommended a lot but various reviews tell the story that they're not particularly well built nor reliable long term and I really don't want to be spending that kind of money on something that has a strong likelihood of needing binning and replacing in a few years time. I'd rather spend more to have something that lasts and the manufacturer sells spares in the (hopefully unlikely) event that it does develop a fault. Fracino stuff seems to tick both boxes from what I've researched.

The ESE pods are less airtight than some of the other types, so there's probably a lot more variability in "freshness" depending on how old the batch is. Might explain the wildly differing experiences. I haven't had one in years, but I recall them being less terrible than some of the other types I've had the misfortune to sample.

Dunno if it's just the lighting but that looks like a hot chocolate rather than espresso - mine are usually a bit more golden.
