seriously. Stop Pissing about. Hand / electric ground yada yada. BEANS TO CUP FTW
I've used your favoured bean to cup machine, it's not all that. Not bad mind you, but not exactly the last word in coffee.

Agree - I bought a hand grinder and it reduced my coffee intake significantly.
I bought an electric and it increased my coffee intake. Not sure that's a good thing. wink
...and then I went bean to cup and I'm still trying to get down from the ceiling.

Ah. There's your problem; house too small.

First step then, get a bigger house, e.g.:

... then get grinder of your choice.

Glad to help. thumbup

My daughter wants a coffee machine for Christmas but we're not sure which is the best route to go. My wife says get a Tassimo but I'm not sure about whether to go for a filter or bean type machine. Budget will be a consideration, I don't want to spend a fortune and also convenience for her will be another.

And you won't have wasted a fortune if it gets used twice and never again.

Makes a cracking cup of coffee, too.

Coffee and cold water in the bottom, put on stove/hob, etc. coffee magically appears in the top pot.

I've got an all gas hob.
Are there any adapters that I can get to use one of these?

Chris will give a proper answer, But I think you need to buy ground coffee, or beans & a grinder?
Personally I succumbed to a Delonghi beans to cup machine.

Is that much different to this except you put ready boiled water in it?

Yeah, pretty different.

Here's how it works. It comes apart in the middle. There's a funnel that sits in the bottom part. You put the ground coffee in that. You fill the bottom part with cold water, assemble it, and put it on the hob.

As the water in the bottom part boils, steam pressure forces the hot water up the funnel, through the coffee and into the top jug section.

I realise the principle is different but I assume the end product is the same for a similar amount of effort.

Well, it's all coffee; but cafetiere coffee isn't espresso, which is what the stovetop pot makes.
