I found an elderberry bush on the lane I live on whilst taking our newborn for a push last week. The best thing to go with elderberry is Venison. Venison pie with Elderberry and Merlot.

My butchery skills are not quite up to the level of pferdy and calibrax. Youtube makes french trimming chicken breasts look a lot easier than I found it.

Tasted nice enough though, with some mushrooms and cream.

That looks awesome!

And I love the idea of finding a random ingredient and devising a meal around it, especially when it's a minor ingredient in the final dish... biggrin

Looks like a job well done! And my butchery skills are pretty limited really, I've never tried French trimming chicken. Mind you I always find chicken a bit of a faff to work with when raw.

Got 2 pieces of cod out of the freezer, and cut them into chunks for deep frying as finger food for tonight.

Batter was Delia recipe, just flour water and salt but I used 50 : 50 cornflour and self raising instead.

Served with salt and vinegar, strongbow cider with lemon as a refreshing drink to go with them rather than anything too heavy.
Great work.

Thanks, it was a nice working out what to have for dinner because I found the berries. Glad I tried it that way around. See what I can find next time. I am hoping to do a ‘kill, it cook it, eat it’ dinner at some point too.

I have got to say there are some photos of cracking food being posted up on here. Better inspiration than some of the attempts of cooking programmes on at the moment.

I'm calling this dinner "come and look at what you could have won". weeping

It's supposed to be pork chop with cinnamon baked apple and smoked cheddar sauce. Somehow I contrived to muller the baked apple in to mush, dry out the chops and under cook the crackling.

Will chalk it down to experience and get some more chops from the butcher.

Funnily enough, I too had a 20z steak, only mine was home cooked. Rump steak from CostCo at £11.99/kg, served with oven-cooked garlic mushrooms and oven chips.

(Yes, I realise that oven chips let the side down a bit)

Yup. I buy it pre-chopped and frozen, from Waitrose. I think I might possibly have used too much on this occasion. smile

Enjoyed an evening at Beef & Pudding in Manchester last night. 7lb of beef for dinner.....between four. Very good. Needless to say I'm not very productive this morning!

This thread is pretty much food porn!

Some recent stuff from me.

Roast Beef with the trimmings.
Sausage Casserole made in my new cast iron dish which is probably the best piece of cookware i've ever bought. (Got it in Sainsburys reduced from £60 to £15).
Seafood Paella.
Leek & Potato Soup.
