Honestly - get to Sainsbury's and see if they've got the Mount Gay XO. Imo it's by far and away *the* best rum at that price point.
Angostura's good, but the 1919 isn't their aged one so it's a bit more agricultural than the aged Mount Gay. (The Angostura 1824 aged rum is utterly gorgeous but over £50 a pop)
I was watching Sunday Brunch a month or so ago when they had the Rum Ambasador on and he recommended the Mount Gay XO and was favourite amongst the guests.Angostura's good, but the 1919 isn't their aged one so it's a bit more agricultural than the aged Mount Gay. My third bottle since and love it. Keep it in the freezer and sip neat.

I'll have to try it in the freezer, I usualy sip at room temperature but bet it's nice ice cold too.
I've got the taste for sailor jerrys at the moment, almost polished off a full bottle with coke in one sitting the other night, oops
I too like Sailor Jerry's but found it a little harsh neat so used to serve it up with some fever tree ginger beer, lime and ice. I've got the taste for sailor jerrys at the moment, almost polished off a full bottle with coke in one sitting the other night, oops
This Mount Gay XO would be wasted on a mixer it's that nice neat. I keep most my spirits in the freezer now I think it does concentrate the flavour particularly in gin and rum which are my main two tipples.
Went to Guyana earlier in the year, that being where my mum is from (first time visit for me). Plenty of rum around! Unfortunately wasn't able to visit the distillery due to time constraints, but picked up a bottle of the 15yo at the El Dorado shop at the airport on the way back home.
Incredible stuff. Those who recommended it here were not wrong!

Arr Jim lad, me thread's hoved into view.
Favourite, for when in a dark and sweet mood
this is quite expensive in the UK, but in this neck of the woods it is a quarter of UK prices.
Best, when in a light mood:
Daily drinker, and there's always a bottle in the bag on hiking or fishing trips!
Rum trivia question: What rum did Sir Francis Drake stock his ships with?

The tradition of adding ice to alcohol was first introduced in the speakeasies during prohibition, it was done so that the bartenders could hide the fact they were using inferior alcohol as ice numbs the tastebuds.
So therfor by keeping your alcohol in the freezer you may as well just be buying the bottom shelf stuff as you will not really taste the difference.

The trouble with freezing it is the same as adding ice, reducing the temperature hides the flavours.

Fair enough, I was told otherwise, but will whip it out the freezer and report back. The tradition of adding ice to alcohol was first introduced in the speakeasies during prohibition, it was done so that the bartenders could hide the fact they were using inferior alcohol as ice numbs the tastebuds.

Had a couple of ones that are new to me recently, Morgans Black Spiced and Saint Nick (there was more to the name, but it's at home and I'm at work). The Saint Nick was from France, I think it was pretty cheap (13 Euros a bottle), but lovely stuff and 45%. The Morgans Black Spiced went down far too easily.
I picked up a bottle of Dark Matter from the recent Whisky Fringe in Edinburgh. It's from Scotland's one and only rum distillery. Absolutely blew my head off in terms of smell & taste - highly recommended if you like spiced rums...
