Not strictly in line with the thread but I miss toys in cereal. Yes, I know.

Chicken in a basket, it used to be the de-facto of pub food. I know you can still get cooked chicken, just not in a basket frown
One of the local pubs near me still does this. It's on the bar snacks menu. You can get scampi in a basket too.

Noms.

Nothing more exciting back then (especially Doctor Who stuff in Weetabix). These days I think the modern child would be rather underwhelmed.

If it's what I'm thinking of, I used to love the chocolate one. Was it a type of hot mousse with biscuit bits sprinkled on top?
Yes that's the one, the closest thing to it now is angel delight but that doesn't even do it justice. I mean it was only a simple packet dessert but just thinking about it instantly transports me back to anyone of many great camping trips, sitting in the tent, rain beating against the side of it, knackered from doing a ten mile walk that day, but happy and chilled out.

Puff a Puff a Rice..breakfast cereal that was just huge grains of puffed rice. Advertised by Sooty IIRC, I would happily eat an entire packet as a kid

Chocolate spread.... pretty sure made by Cadburys in the 70's and 80's.....really sugary, sticky and glistenned in the light... stuck to the knife/spoon like the preverible

not to be confused with nutella or current cadbury milk chocolate spread offerings on sale

Dear All,

Peek Freans Cocktail Assortment savoury nibbles from the 60s/70s.
In a tin - classy.

In particular the yellowy peppery ones and pinkish tomato ones. Yummy treats as a child at Chistmas,

regards,
Jet

KFC bean salad sold in OZ but never saw it here in UK. Was just the best; gutted when they stopped making it.

I can remember being at uni when the change was made. The taps said "due to popular demand" and sold tetley. I was very annoyed

Just another example of corporate short-sightedness. Just look at the real ale world today, it is positively thriving. I actively seek out pubs serving good ales and cider/perry on my travels. I wouldn't bother going to a pub just to drink run of the mill beers and lagers.

Breakfast slices.

Slices made of chopped up bacon you fried like bacon for breakfast but were cheaper - I used to love them but they've disappeared.
I dread to think how bad these were for you, but they were SO good!

I'd go one further, and say there is no excuse for poor ales in any pub. Publicans would have you believe it is bloody hard at present (and I do sympathise) but serve decent beer !

if the chain pub I often visit in Oadby (as the beer is reliable) can manage it theres no excuse for independents

a lot of pubs round here are on the wane apart from the 2 independant real ale pubs.
one of them is considerably more expensive than normal pubs by a fair margin but its still one of the busyest pubs in the town.

another advantage of real ale pubs is the lack of chavscum as their usual chavvy tipples arnt on offer.

good for everyone all round!
