Although I still cannot work out how you've cut that jacket MD?
Is it one fat one stood on its end or is it standing on its side.
Tall one cut in half, base cut off, scooped out, mixed with butter cream and leek, back in to the spud shell and under a hot grill for 30 seconds. Is it one fat one stood on its end or is it standing on its side.

My girlfriend does something similar, she cuts them in half, scoops it out, then mixes it with butter, cheese and ham. Then rather than use the grill, she bakes them.slopes said:

First time entering the competition for me. Do the polls generally favour more comfort food or fine dining?
Braised Oxtail with Cinnamon & Star Anise
Looks amazing. Great first entry.Braised Oxtail with Cinnamon & Star Anise
In answer to your question the polls tend to favour the dish that the majority would pick from the menu. That can mean simple comfort food or something more involved. Decent photos and clean presentation like yours certainly helps to feed the eyes.

Apologies for the phone pics; this was tonight's dinner rather than a special effort so I didn't really have time for a proper photo.

Straight in there with your first entry and it's very similar ingredients I'm going with so should be interesting.
Looks bang on though I'd be happy to scoff that up.

That looks really nice. I'm guessing from the ingrediants it's a chocolate and red wine sauce ? What's the technique - do you just break the chocolate pieces in to the pot somewhere near the end of the cooking time ?
Thanks. It's a very straightforward recipe, as I guess most one-pots will be. Brown the oxtails then set aside. Caramelise the onions. Add the meat back along with the wine and reduce to burn off the alcohol. Throw in the spices, zest, bay leaves and stock and simmer very gently for 4 hours, making sure to top up with stock to keep the oxtails moist. By that time the meat is beautifully tender and falling off the bones. Pass the sauce back into the pan, skim the fat and whisk in a couple of squares of chocolate. Meat back in and then serve with chopped parsley and mash. The best bit is that it makes a nice big quantity and I get to have it for lunch for the next two days.

What a lovely picture (although I can't see the Star Anise?), simple colours - like the look of this, is it a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall recipe? I might try this next week if the temperature drops again as looks delicious. Braised Oxtail with Cinnamon & Star Anise
Yes, I only thought to take a photo once I'd already chopped the onions and rushed a bit, forgetting to snap the star anise. Shame as they're pretty little things. It may be a HFW recipe. I've been collecting recipes from all kinds of sources into a digital cookbook for years and can't recall where this came from.
