Seems a touch counter-intuitive to me, and a bit of a waste of money. Why not just eat 2-3 courses, rather than gorging on super-rich food?
Ah the wonders of hindsight. biggrin This was the moral of the story really, don't believe those who say you'll come away feeling hungry. I'd be surprised if anyone, bar the largest of gluttons, left the restaurant after eating that menu still feeling a bit peckish. Or maybe I'm just a wuss. smile

"The Brilliant Restaurant" in Southall.

Love going out for a curry, and have been wanting to go here for years, having only ever heard good things about the place.

Food was very average, but price was above average for a curry in or around West London (£30 a head with no alcohol or desserts).
In hindsight, we should've gone to one of the less stylish looking but more "rustic" curry houses in the area.

Overall 5/10. Definitely won't be going back.

Think you caught them on a bad, day, unless it's changed hands or something. I haven't been for about 6 months but it's always been...well..brilliant.

If you like that sort of indian restaurant I'd highly recommend Mantra in Hounslow, and Temple Monkey in Slough. Both serve excellent food.

If it's authenticity you're after, then Exotic Karahi in Slough is by far my favourite place (Rita's and Omi's are good too - both in Southall, as well as Haveli, again in Slough).

For me, was at Fallon and Byrne (11-17 Exchequer Street Dublin 2, Ireland). 9/10

Starters - Roulade of poached free-range chicken, smoked bacon & mozzarella, sweet potato purée, sauce vierge

Main - Pan-roasted rump of Lough Erne lamb, rillette of lamb shoulder, confit carrots, tabbouleh, mint jus

Dessert - Chocolate & peanut semi-freddo, salted caramel sauce

Or Rita's just around the corner.

BTW which Brilliant did you go to? Was it the original or the newer one?

Also as Dav_s said Exotic Karahi on the Farnham Road is excellent, they have a buffet every day and the lamb curry is the best I have ever tried and I've tried A LOT

Kaosarn, Brixton Village.

Thai restaurant on the edge of Brixton Village, which is an indoor market full of quirky food stalls and well worth a visit if your in South London. They have also recently opened another restaurant up on St Johns Hill which is a bit smarter than the Brixton branch but doesn't have quite the same ambience.

For starter I went for the crispy chicken wings accompanied with a spicy dip which was very nice, meat well cooked and the dip complemented the batter very well.

Main I had the Beef Massaman which came with sticky rice. The beef was tender and sauce was very flavoursome but the spuds were a little hard for my liking, I prefer them to crush easily under a fork.

Service is basic but prompt and food didn't take long to arrive during a busy lunchtime. Overall very nice authentic cuisine and at a reasonable price only things to note is cash only and they don't serve booze but byo is allowed.

Overall 4/5

Melman,

Rita's? Great shout that. They do the best chicken tikka rolls!

We went to the Brilliant in "old" Southall. The other one is bit more flashy and is now know as "Madhu's". Haven't been for a while, but they do good food.

Decided to cut through Southall earlier on my way home. And then remembered it's been a while since I've been to "Rita's" for a Chicken Tikka Roll.

Bloody massive things! (So tasty though!) Stupidly ordered two. Thought I was going to die by the end of the second one.

Yeah the whole thing about tiny portion sizes is nonsense as the food is so rich. I've been to Gordon Ramsay a couple of times, and have never left feeling anything other than thoroughly over indulged. I've never done the Menu Prestige, but have the done the 15 or so course menu at the Fat Duck. That was an absurd amount of food but fantastic.

are they still cramming in lots of tables ? went there as a student , used to paying £2 for curry and rice in Wolverhampton , and I was not impressed . one of their specialities then was butter chicken, which was ok
