For my £15, Hache are a cut above the rest. Fantastic meat, good service, grown-up setting. I go to the one in Chelsea, but I think they have a few more dotted around the place.
Been to the one in Camden, and it's pretty good too.Kua Aina are a new one here, and pretty tasty, even though it doesn't quite have the menu to match their original branches.

Cheers for the updates. I'm still nowhere near decided although Hache is looking very promising...
And you can actually book a table! Edited by acd80 on Tuesday 14th April 15:16
(If you go to Hache, you must try the one with peanut butter and cheese - it's artery clog-tastic!)
For those of you who are interested...
I got delayed in work before heading up to London hence I got there quite late so opted for a Meat Liquor delivery to my hotel.
By the time the order showed up after almost 90 minutes (got quoted 30 minutes for delivery), I more or less just inhaled the food. I would have savoured it with the milkshake I ordered but as they forgot to deliver that, I can only imagine what it tasted like!
I went for the hippie fries (not impressed with them to be honest), fried pickles with blue cheese dip (heart attack in a bag but very moreish) and the black palace burger (nice but I've had better (and cheaper) burgers elsewhere). Overall, it came to about £22 including delivery.
Still, it's ticked off my list now although I bitterly regret not going for a Hache burger!

Always find Byron a little too hipsterish, the foods ok but it's never somewhere I can relax & enjoy my food. The 'diner' in Islington does a good burger. I think it's a small chain. It's decked out like a proper American diner with squishy seats etc so a nice chilled place to spend some time. Another shout for a burger on the move would be 5 guys. Only tried the branch at the O2 which was great. Tried nipping to Covent garden for one the other wk but the queue literally came out the door & right down the side of the building. About 100 people waiting. Crazy hype about the place at the moment

And in contrast, I thought 5 Guys was woeful and Byron fantastic every time I go. Their B-Rex the other week being particularly brilliant.Luke. said:

Yeah - agreed on 5 Guys. Definitely not seeing the hype that justifies paying that much and waiting that long for something that tastes like it was made in McDonald's.zetec said:
It's my Birthday tomorrow and am thinking of a trip into London with the family. For a meal I really fancy a burger, a really decent, big, flavoursome burger. Where's the best place to head?
I'll have the kids with me, they are 11 and 15 so don't need highchairs etc but somewhere that welcomes and can cater for kids.
Cost I'd say no worries...well it's my Birthday and a burger can't be that expensive.....or can it?
I also don't want to book anywhere as my plans for tomorrow aren't 100% yet.
I've done Planet Hollywood, TGI Fridays, Rainforest etc etc, I'm looking for somewhere where the food is the star.
Many thanks

I work in Covent Garden so have been to most of the aforementioned burger joints as well as the farmers market stalls. However if I fancy a cheese and bacon burger for lunch there's only one place I head for...
... Marks and Spencers on Long Acre.
Seriously - for £6.50 you get a really, really good burger in a brioche bun, along with fries or wedges. I can't fault it for quality or value. There's no way I can justify twice that price for Shake Shack, Five Guys, Byron or anywhere else locally.
Ok, it might not be much of a dining experience, but it matches everything else for taste and quality.
If I went anywhere else for a good burger in London it would be Elliots in Borough Market. They only do it for lunch, but it is well worth the effort.

Hitting Bobo Social for lunch with Mannginger later...
Salt and Pepper Crispy Squidfollowed by....
BoBo Burger with extra Colston Bassett Stilton, Guacamole, Sauteed stake Mushrooms.
This should be washed down with at least 2 but probably 3 Old Fashioned's.
You can thank me after, enjoy.

Used to work near there and liked the roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and gravy baguette they served will give the burger a go next time in the area. ... Marks and Spencers on Long Acre.

I went to Burger Craft yesterday, small chain that has set up in a few pubs across London, was good £13 for bacon cheeseburger, fries and pint.

Have had their burgers a few times now at the Crown in Battersea - the Juicy bd is always a good burger..http://burgercraft.co.uk/contact
Bit of thread resurrection, but based on recommendations in this thread, my friends and I went to Hache Burger (Camden) last week.
Food was excellent and the setting is certainly a million times better than the hideous experience that is Meat Liqour. We actually found the service quite poor. Once of us was constantly chasing the staff for ordering, food, drinks and even getting the bill was a lot of hard work.
However, the food was good and we all had a great time
Looking for my next place to go now. It will probably be Honest Burger as you can book at their place in East London. Not an ideal location for me, but being able to book is king when you are bringing eight people.
So far, my friends and I have been to:
Five Guys
Shake Shack
The Thirsty Bear
Flip & Dip
Meat Liqour
Red Dog Diner
Chucks (Harrow)
Hache Burgers
Flip and Dip gets my vote for originality and value for money. They had dipping gravy Tiny place and no need to worry about booking. Shake Shack is good as their ice cream is really nice.
Patty & Bun have opened up a stall at Liverpool Street Station. Might be worth a visit before the year is out
Might have to read this thread again for more options in and around London.
