My London knowledge isn't great but I really enjoy the burgers from Cattlegrid in Leeds and know they have restaurants down there:

I went to Meat Liquor near Bond Street Tube last week, was awesome! It gets very busy though so be prepared to queue. There is another one near Hoxton Square, called something slightly different, but is essentially the same.

Another vote for Bodeans.

Omogus, im in Virginia Water so yes please.- If you like a good size burger and are starving then head to Ceasers in Leatherhead.
Right, so it is something we argue about (alot) but the top three in a rough order of consistency and current form.

1st)
Fegos (Sunningdale)

Joint 2nd)
Cau (Guildford)
The Brickies (Windlesham)

3)
The 3 Horseshoes (Laleham)

When it's on form the 3 Horseshoes is the daddy, but my last Burger there wasn't worth the trip. frown
The Brickies has been our dependable pint+Burger location for the last 10-12months, there are places that sometimes do a better burger, but then have their off days where as the Brickies has been solid everytime.
Cau does a good burger, but when you see the steaks you might get distracted. Trust me, the burger is worth it.
Fegos, tasty burger, the salad is always amazing, the tomatoes alone are mouthwatering, superb gherkins, either fries or sweet potato fries o the side and the burger sauce is superb.

It must be said that the loss of 1 The Square in Bagshot (Hardys) was tragic, a handmade burger, well seasoned with a mozzarella centre waiting to surprise you.

sunningdale is not too far from reading, might have to give that a go.

we do have the handmade burger co in reading now but it's only above average rather than amazing.

for london, i've never managed to get a burger in bodeans but everything else they do is pretty good so i can't see the burger being a let down smile

It is rather nice, although I preferred the pulled pork at Pit Cue Co (and the ribs at big easy, at Bodeans the meat was a little tougher). At bodeans it's the burnt ends you really want though....they were amazing!

maybe already been said but you don't want to be going to a hipster burger joint that you can't walk straight in and get a table or pre-book... there seem to be a lot that insist you queue outside for ages. Kids and that are incompatible.

MeatLiquor behind Oxford Street has the best burgers I had so far in London. Beats Byron by a country mile, and I think is better than Red Dog as well. They have great sides as well.

GBK are good, and there's loads of them.
fking awful, I did a mystery shop in one, the review I gave them was so scathing, I'm surprised they didn't close the shop down.

Red Dog
Meat Market
Meat Liquor
S.O.S

Or Pitt Cue/Bodeans for more pulled pork/bbq style.

The other problem with hipster places are the portions. Pitt Cue tastes fantastic, but when my size 6 girlfriend leaves hungry you know there's a problem.

Never went to the Cobham one, but i heard it was ste, the general consensus seems to be that Ascot and Sunningdale are about equal in quality. But IMO the Sunningdale burger is always better.

surprised it hasnt been mentioned yet..

Hawksmoor Seven Dials.. Their burgers are amazing and huge !
not the cheapest by far but very good. Think its £15 for burger and chips

otherwise Byron is great for a burger fix, i really like the Southwark branch.

read good things about Patty&Bun and Mother Flipper

Probably the very best burger is the mini burger with foie gras a L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, but that's hardly mainstream.

GBK started up long before Byron and was good at first. It is no longer good. Dirty Burger in Kentish Town is good, so is Burger & Lobster. The best burger in town at the moment for me is at the Lansdowne in Primrose Hill.

GBK is basically mcdonalds for the middle classes. It isn't that bad, but you can do a lot better. I was amazed at how many GBKs there are in dublin on a recent visit.

On the other hand GBK has massive portions,
You either bribed the serving staff, were in the wrong restaurant, or are GBK's PR man.

I've never seen a generous portion there.
