The sun is out today so it looks like it may be time to start on the Cider again.
So far this year I have tried.
Tesco's own brand, not there homeless stuff 7/10
Sainsburys 8/10
I must say im not enjoying Wrongbow as much now that they have reduced the alcohol content.
Anyways what is your cider of choice?

Stowford Press. All the other mainstream ciders like Magners, Strongbow etc are far too sweet.

Unfortunately though it's not in that many supermarkets. Luckily my local pub sells it so I can still get my fix!

I discovered Somersby while spending a year in Canada and was very happy to find that it is just being introduced here. Fairly sweet and only 4%, but very refreshing. As far as I know it is only available in Tescos for now. But at £2.50 for a 4 pack, is worth a try.

Last year I went down to Padstow and was partial to a pint of Rattlesnake or 6 whilst crabbing. I can't seem to find it anywhere near where I live (the cider not the crabs).
Stowford is nice but I can only manage a couple of pints for some reason.

Ahhh pub beer gardens in the sunshine and casual drinking games. Nothing finer. I fondly remember when I was a young student on my placement year working for a company in Exeter, and the receptionist showed me how to put four fingers in cider. Happy days.

Henry Westons Vintage in Bottles 8.2% - lush

Westons Organic in the 3ltr Wine Box 7.5% from (a very hazy) memory, ASDA used to sell it ... not sure if they do any more.

the westons vintage 8.2 is very good, found the stuff in the box a bit sour if not chilled till very cold, then i tend to just down it quick an get drunk, but the bottled stuff is very good, one of the best you can get in a typical shop.

Go to "traditional" and you'll find proper Somerset rocket fuel. I recommend the Cheddar Valley. Here's a picture - this is about the true colour:

I'm quite partial to Old Rosie and the boxed Westons stuff, but a heavy night on either makes way for the mother of all headaches the next day hehe

Away from traditional, more in the "tramp special" category, but I really like Olde English.

www.oldeenglishcider.com

Strongbow is to be avoided at all costs, due to the day-after effects. Horrific.

Old Rosie I'm sure could make planes fly. I used to be quite fond of Thatchers Katy, however drinking it in the same manner as 'Olde English'- I found out quite quickly that that idea was not big nor clever.

You need to try buying it direct from the farmyard, preferably in a used milk jug. biggrin

Heresy I know, but I do like a pint of Strongbow. I also like a can of Stella Cidre, too.

The OH only likes a Warm Dicken's.

Rekorderlig Apple is also good. Difficult to find in Supermarkets though. Stella Cidre is good

Anyone recommend a really Apple tasting cider?

Not sure what my favourite is, but it's from Dorset, usually a nice medium scrumpy. After 2 pints I'm a smiling, happy Prand.

The Stables (Cider, pie and pizza bars) in Bridport and Weymouth are a good place to try a wide variety of local brews, although a bit pricey.

I usually try to get to either the Powerstock Cider Festival on 27 April, or the Bridport Beer festival (15/16 June) which as well as loads of beer, usually has over 20 ciders on offer too.

Try and catch the Skimmetty Hitchers, local band (scrumpy and weston is their style) who sing songs in the honour of cider, and badgers.
