Meanwhile, for some insane reason, I was tempted by 'Rekordelig orange and ginger cider' at Lidl.
Please, no-one be tempted to follow suit. £1.99 for 500ml of 4% ABV ought to have been warning enough.
I merely tried it on a whim. Horrible artificial orange flavour, but if you like 'Chase marmelade vodka' you'll love it. I promise.

Afraid we only make proper custard....so no Bird's Eye boxes to hand
In that case I'll need to come down and personally taste it to verify your outrageous claims. (The cider, not the custard, unless I can have both. With apple pie. The custard, not the cider)And back off mobile - I called shotgun.

Anyone had Orchard Pig ? Not sure who the brewery is but I have had it in a few London pubs.
Very drinkable dry cider but gives a cracking headache when I have more than 3 or 4 - most of my team was wiped out last Friday!

Well Cider is back on the menu for me know. It kicks off with 24 bottles of Hazy Hog from Hogs Back Brewery and 24 bottles of Rattler, which a friend kindly bought back from Padstow.
I have a feeling a hangover will happen in the next couple of days.
Yes indeed... we killed another demijohn of Dunkertons on Good Friday, sat outside with the chiminea fired up until the early hours. It certainly hit the spot... and the head the next morning!I have a feeling a hangover will happen in the next couple of days.

I usually grab a few bottled beers from the supermarket for Saturday night in - last couple of weeks it's been ciders. Last week Addlestones and Sheppeys.
Addlestones is on offer in Sainsburys at the moment, great stuff, looks like orange squash! Is it just me or has Rattler lost its bite? Had it at a wedding a few years ago, remember it being cloudy and very, very dangerous. Had a pint in Cornwall last weekend and it was nearly clear and not particularly inspiring. Mind you that was Padstow so maybe they temper it down for the London crowd who appear to inhabit the place these days.
One of the best things about moving to rural Herefordshire 18 months ago was discovering what great cider and perry there is round these parts and with a lot of pubs having decent stuff on tap Current cider of choice is Gwatkin, one advantage of their farm being about 5 minutes away is being able to buy it by the crate or taking a plastic milk bottle to fill if you so wish!

We have a small orchard and made some cider and some apple wine. I'll report back in the Autumn as to it's quality
You won't have to wait that long to find out, a couple of months and you'll get a good indication of what it's going to be like.I would say mine is 'complex'.

Similar to Dorset. My mother in law lives in Bridport and there is usually one or two boxes of local scrumpy behind the bar of any half decent pub, and plenty of small suppliers sell from the farm gate. My favourite is an amazingly appley Dorset Nectar, I think it's the Dabinett. I'll be checking again in a couple of weeks as we are going to visit the farm. I love the history and tradition of cider in this country. Fortunately the recent upturn in UK cider drinking is saving what was a disappearing art, and it's rescuing us from the over processed strongbow blackthorn and magners type ciders. It's reviving the apple and pear orchards that grow so well in this climate, bringing regional variety and choice to us the consumer and diversity back into agriculture and the landscape.
For cider lovers these are exciting times. A book called Ciderland by James Crowden, although a couple of years old now is a great read about UK cider, and focuses of a handful of old and new producers, a good snapshot of today's cider industry.

How come you are tasting in June when apples are harvested and processed in Autumn? Most of mine was bottled by Christmas.
I used some flip top Grolsch type bottles and some 250ml ones so I could get an easy taste of the first batch, when it was a bit tart I altered the recipe for the others and made it better.
Some bottles are a bit lively, I gave some to a mate who opened it at home, it sprayed all over the walls, TV, carpet etc....
