We go to northern Spain regularly, so I get to sample both types of their cider. There is the natural, still sidra, served in most cafes and restaurants. Poured from a great height to add oxygen. And the pleasantly light and fizzy stuff (like El Gaitero), which we tend to buy and drink at home.

Also, I got four bottles of Weston's for Father's Day. Vintage Organic, Wyld Wood, Stowford Press, Old Rosie. What order should I drink them in?! (probably not all on the same day though)

Another reason why San Sebastian is one of my favourite ever places!

Continuing my love of Sheppy's:

If you like the idea of fruity cider but find most of them too sweet, this is lovely and dry.

Nothing to do with taste, but I quite regularly have Stowford Press and Old Rosie; so they'd be the two to go first. Stowford is the least 'special'. I've not had Wyld Wood much at all, so would probably have that third (perhaps on a different day) with the Vintage Organic last.

My favourite of the four is probably Old Rosie, although prefer it out of a box/pump rather than bottle.

Stowford first then old Rosie, I love agitating the bottle with Old Rosie to get the sediment mixed up, not sure with the other too.

Yes, so far some:

3 Hammers Black Premium Dry Cider 7.5%

Orchard Pig Truffler Dry Cider, 6%

Morrison's Vintage Cider (in a box), 7.3%

Next either some Henry Weston Vintage, Merrydown Vintage or perhaps more from the Morrison's box.

I'm no longer keen on apple cider, pear one seems easier to drink? Tastes sweeter too...which is a bonus.

Any suggestions for outlets in West Yorkshire? Not exactly Cider country but you never know..... Perry and other fruit ciders would be preferred, one of those like in the West Country that you take your own receptacle and fill it your sen ideally.

I'm looking forward to a nice cold glass of Thatcher's Katy tonight.

This thread being revitalised is not good, I've vowed to be off the booze until my holiday in mid August; the weather is good and there is nothing like an ice cold cider on a lovely hot sunny day.

Yes I'm a fan of that too; although can get a little gassy if I have more than 2. Has recently been available for £1.29 so I've been having a couple each weekend of late.

I love proper cider, always try and squeeze a few in at the beer festival, remember a few years ago having rum and whiskey cask which tasted amazing. GF recent picked up Strongbow cloudy, I was all set to berate her but it's actually not to bad, far superior to normal Strongbow (although that's not saying much).

"Pear ciders” are actually artificial ciders with pear flavouring. wink

Pear "cider" is revolting, I'm not keen on the fruit ciders either; too sweet, I want my cider to be as apple'y as possible.

[hipster] Old Mout used to be better before they were bought out by one of the big breweries [/hipster]

There's been a bit of an explosion of new ciders lately, but sadly most have gone down the overly sweet fruit flavoured route. Prefer a good Bretton one, or proper old-fashioned West Country stuff.

Not sure if it's been mentioned so far on this thread but Lidl do a rather 'agricultural' and dry cider called Golden Haze (west country cloudy cider) that's very tasty, potent and good value. Reminiscent of some of the stuff you usually get out of a box at cider festivals.

Whilst were on this sensitive topic...I initially bought these for 2 reasons, as a gift for family as Pearson is our Surname, and because its produced ~15miles away.

Both are fantastic!
