Tanquery. I think that's how you spell it.

G&T looks lovely when it's made, tall glass with ice and lime and gin and the tonic sparkling away...pity I can't stand the stuff, but my wife loves it!

+1. Very nice, quite strong compared to others.

If you like a Martini once in a while I recommend Tanquery No 10. Not cheap (although it is available in Costco). Don't put this in a G & T though, the tonic wipes out the flavor.

I was reading down wondering if anyone was going to mention Tanquaray and in particular the T10.

Although I always feel like I'm wasting T10 by putting tonic in it as the flavour is so distinctive that it tends to kill it.

Iirc it's the whole fruit that gives it the flavour and it is very smooth.

I always have gin, tonic, a slice and a squeeze if lemon and lime and also a squeeze of mango, I'm weird like that.

The tonic is as important as the gin. Try http://www.fever-tree.com/ It is the best I have ever tasted!

Of all gins, my favourite is Gordons.

But it has to be with Fevertree low sugar tonic, and lime not lemon.

Kudos

That's closer to petrol than it is gin

Agreed on the lime and tonic

Seconded, but hurry, prices are going to go up for no reason other than a new bottle design.

Lots of interesting gins cropped up the last couple of years, tried most of them but keep coming back to trusty old Tanqueray 10.

With schweppes of course smile

where did you buy the old raj? i haven't seen it for sale anywhere.

hendricks with schweppes and lime for me. can't get 'boutique' tonics out in the desert. i am told i make them pretty strong, but works for me biggrin

monkey 47 sounds good, but again i haven't seen it for sale

duty free needs to wake up and realise there are more varied rums and gins out there and not just a million types of whisky to be stocked.

I'll throw my hat into the ring too, a nice G&T is very refreshing.

At the moment our favourite is The Botanist from Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, wonderful. We tried Darnley's View yesterday and that's running a close second.

Would like to try this stuff: https://www.thelondondistillerycompany.com/shop/do...

Hi there,

Spoilt for choice at the moment.

Got 19 bottles opened at the minute so its just a question of what I am in the mood for.

We have: -

Tanns Gin (not available in the UK but has Raspberry as one of the botanicals so really fruity)
Hunters Gin
Brokers Gin (not the normal one but the 47% ABV one)
Oxley
Sacred Christmas Pudding Gin (might not try this again until the end of the year)
Langleys (only just launched in the UK)
6 o'clock Gin
Lighthouse Gin (from New Zealand and has some great Orange and Lemon notes)
Boxer Gin
Warner Edwards (my current personal favourite due to the natural spring water they use which makes it quite creamy)
Bloom Gin (great with Strawberries)
Blackwoods Vintage 40%
Sloanes Gin
Bulldog (Extra Bold version not available in the UK)
Fifty Pounds Gin
Waitrose Earl Grey and Lemon Gin (not good at all, would give this one a miss)
Berkley Square
Greenalls Gin (great entry level gin)
Edinburgh Raspberry Gin

All offer something a bit different, thats the great thing about gin.

As for tonic, its a choice of two for me. Waitrose Essentials Tonic (which is great for saying its only 50p a bottle), and 1724 tonic water which although expensive is just sublime.

Happy drinking.

Regards

Tim

I'm off most of next week so will buy in some recommendations. Let battle commence.
First thing, is that Gin is as different in taste as any other spirits, its about finding the 'style' you prefer.

Some are highly led on Juniper, I.e Tanqueray, Plymouth, some floral like Bombay sapphire, some citrus led beefeater, waitrose heston earl grey, others cucumber like Hendricks, Mare.

One thing to remember is tonic makes up 75% of the drink. Schweppes is nasty, Waitrose/Sainsburys tonic is far better, although Fever Tree is the one to go for, or soda water & lime. Mix chase gin(made with apples) with apple juice for an appletini. Combinations are endless. Enjoy the testing.

I keep a tray of single measure tins of schwepes (?) tonic in the fridge. That makes a difference I reckon, fresh ice cold tonic makes a sparkly G&T. Bombay always accompanys it.
