Probably not the best indicator. Average earnings are generally higher in the US but they have to pay more for services we get from taxation.

Price comparisons are also not really fair as it's pitched to a completely different market than the US. And the potatoes are imported.

Exactly it is daylight robbery. Same with that Chipotle place now popping up all over central London.

£10 for a wrap and drink in London the same cost me $6 in Chicago last year.
I didn't realise Chipolte had made it over here now. Barburito are very similar and seem to be expanding over here - sounds cheaper too.

Thing is its easy to say hey what costs £15 in London is £8 somewhere in the US. Issue is though how does it relate to average earnings?
Not really an issue - everyone I know in the US earns more than the equivalent person in the UK and gets taxed less. And most get health insurance etc included in their comp package.

There doesn't seem to be a shortage of people willing to pay those prices though. Not yet anyway.
Unfortunately for us English we will always pay more for something and the rest of the world know this.
Going off topic

Too true!! Take Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, you pay £7 for 12 glazed doughnuts over here and in the states you can buy a pack of 8 in Walgreens for around $3 last time i went.
Why people over here pay so much for a piece of fried dough with glazed sugar all over it i don't know.

No it doesn't. Ruth's Chris is a chain and seems to do pretty well. As is Hawksmoor.
Yes, but you don't see Hawksmoor outside London do you.

I've seen the one in Uxbridge and it never seems to be busy. Is this to do with the price or the quality of the product. Any way I tend to stay away from places that don't seem to be popular!!

I've been to the one in Kingston (which is also never that busy!) and for two of us to have burger, chips and a drink it came to nearly £30! The burgers taste ok but they're nothing special and certainly not £30 worth. I can't see them lasting long in Kingston at all!

The Guildford one never seems that busy, perhaps I'm going past at the wrong time, however the first and; so far, only time that I have been was a Friday night before the cinema and it was quiet, so I would have thought it would have been a busy time.

The Guildford one is also very big.

I liked the foil wrapper. The Uxbridge branch was more convenient than McD too. Neither were a patch on Woody's!

I have always found shake shack to be really disappointing and massively expensive. Plus, everyone that eats at shake shack appear to treat it as a restaurant rather than a burger joint. Hence the queues are enormous as everyone is sitting around yammering. Plus the service in our local shake shack is very slow, not really sure why as most people are ordering the same thing.... a burger.

Five Guys however.... yum.... Although in the US at least, the prices have nudge up slightly which is making 5 guys a premium fast food option imo.

Your right! I actually went to Shake Shack today for lunch as had a meeting in Covent Garden. £10 for a bacon cheeseburger and a large coke no fries if it wasn't on expenses I would have gone elsewhere.

It was hardly fast food either I was there at 12pm it was pretty empty but still took almost 10 mins for the buzzer to set off.

Burger was better than you usual BK Bacon Double but at almost double the price and only one burger it ought to be.

Still not eaten at Rosie's. Tried a few times and each time I've been greeted by a slightly arsey front of house staff member who has quoted a ridiculous waiting time. I notice they dropped the opening times from 24 hours to 09:00-00:00. Shame really, had high hopes for the place before they opened.

I wouldn't go out of your way, we went fairly recently and I had one of the burgers, it wasn't anything special at all. It's better than a Harvester for sure but you can do better locally already.

I went to Five Guys in Grenwich Village in NY a couple of weeks ago, am I going to be disappointed if I go to the London one next time I'm in the UK?

Not really, the taste is pretty much the same. You may be disappointed with how much more the UK branch costs though... wink

They even have the Coke Freestyle machines here too, they're awesome.

I paid the one in Birmingham a visit with the OH last week, and I was pleasantly surprised, a very satisfying burger and probably a bit more than big enough hehe the chips were top quality too.

The only problem it has is being pretty much the same price as the Handmade Burger Co a hundred yards away, but not in the same league for quality and experience. How much do they cost in the US? IIRC it was £8.75 for a big bacon cheeseburger here.
