My vote goes to dirty burger in London. Simple menu - burger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger. £6.50 for the bacon cheeseburger. Fries £2 or something like that. Excellent burgers, good selection of beers.

No marketing bullst - just a basic burger joint that does decently priced burgers with beer. What more could one want?

Why all the hate for Tayyabs? I absolutely love the place, and frequent it equally with Lahore's. Sometimes the queuing can be an utter pain at both, but I've always found them worth the wait (have probably been going 6-7 years).
The starters I like but I don't like their curry.

Dare I say I've gone vegetarian but previously I used the five guys near me and it was an absolute disgrace. Employees were shouting, dancing and throwing food about while I waited. Then when I walked out the guy cooking the food gives me a racist insult. To top it off, it didn't even taste like what I had elsewhere (chips like crisps, bacon not cooked, burger tasted strange, hot dog like rubber etc), in fact I had slight stomach cramps after.

Tayyabs is fine if you like eating in surroundings that feel like a nightclub, so dark you can barely see, cramped tables with the next table about 2 inches from you, so loud you have to shout at the person opposite etc. The food is good though but personally when I go out to eat I want to relax not waste my time queuing for a table even on a Tuesday night and then sitting in that kind of environment. Lamb chops and dry curry are excellent though.

Needos around the corner on New Road is better.

Queuing for food is a funny think, in the US it's a lot more normal, would never dream of it here. We queued at Hattie B for hot fried chicken in the Nashville sun for a long time. It was very good but not worth the wait.

BYOB makes Tayabbs carnage, also the staff are rude.

Gymkhana is fantastic, but its hardly on the same page money wise, I've done hundreds on lunch in there.

Not a Five Guys fan at all. I'm a massive burger lover and I was massively hyped about this place when they first opened up but tbh I was left massively disappointed.

The fries are different and a lot of people love them but to me, they taste more like baked potatoes than french fries but the worst thing about it is the meat, it has a strong fat smell which for me is a massive turn off.

I've given them a try quite a few times as there's one near my uni but it's gotten to a point where I feel sick afterwords, especially with their portion sizes. Bigger doesn't always mean better.

For me, Shake shack is number one hands down and then Patty and Bun.

Stuff about Cabot 5G
I too went to the Cabot 5G and felt pretty much the same.

The music was way too loud to be at an enjoyable level, shouting across the table is not nice.

The tiles and decor reminded me of a toilet too.
Agree also about the Cabot 5G - distinctly remember it being deafening.

The Swansea one, however, is dead for most of the time. Completely surprised that Swansea had a 5G (it's hidden out the way down an alley) given the prices.

Oh, absolutely - I'm a huge fan of refined/Michelin-style eating (Dinner by Heston twice was a recent highlight), but I feel like being annoyed by 'ambience' is missing the point of places like Tayyabs/Lahores. It's clearly horses for courses - although I wouldn't expect to walk up on the day and pay so little for such good food somewhere that was more 'civilised'. If you want good Indian food in more 'civilised' surroundings, your choices in London are plentiful.
Needos is definitely underrated/undiscovered, but the food isn't quite at the same level as the other two for me.

Visited one today (in the metro centre) and I have to say it was amazing.

I don't really do junk food but the taste of my 5 guys burger took e back to 1986 and my first ever taste of McDonalds, that salty, fatty, sugary taste that I've never ever been able to replicate at home.

I'm sure it isn't good for you but my word it was nice. Bonus points for something called Vanilla Cherry Coke.

Tried them in Leeds recently. Ordered large chips. They put half the chips in a cone, carefully in the paper bag, then literally threw the rest i to the bag loose. When I looked at the guy in a puzzled, WTF kind of way, he told.me "that's how we serve".

Hotdog for the young lad was a POS for the price.

Burgers wrapped in foil and thrown into the bag, not good.

Got the order wrong.

Overly loud music and horrible school canteen atmoshere.

Yes, the taste of the burgers was nice, but the experience was utter trash. fk 'em, I won't be back.

The fact they chuck the chips in the bag is annoying but the portions are huge and they are by far the best chips of all of the burger joints

I also hate that the wrap them up in foil because they just get all sweaty even in the short time they are in there, spoils the bun I think.

The hotdogs are rank, even in the USA

Indeed. And you don't get such a bad experience in somewhere half the price, like McDonald's.

For £30, buying 2 burgers, one set of chips and a hot dog, I expect my food to at least be treated with respect equal to that of a burger van in a layby.

And therein lies the problem. If it was at a similar price point to Five Guys is in the states we'd all be hailing it as the best thing since sliced bread.

Really? there isnt much in it......

In the UK..... cheesburger, regular fries and a refillable drink = £14.90
In California..... cheeseburger, regular fries and a refillable drink = $16.06 which today is £13.22

Im not sure £1.68 would make a lot of difference

Exactly.

If anything I think folk use McDonalds as some kind of benchmark for everything, McDonalds is FAR cheaper than just about any other fast food place on the market - they have nearly 40,000 stores so can get away with being cheap I suppose. When you compare 5 guys to BK etc, then it starts to make sense.
