Should I stroll the 120 metres one lunchtime to try them/it??
Concretes are a frozen vanilla or chocolate custard smooshed up with various sauces. I had a vanilla one with peanut butter and banana. Was awesome.

My office is in Long Acre. Not familiar with this meatmarket place. Is it worth hunting out?
Yes, it's brilliant.
Very very dirty burgers. Awesome. The Dead Hippy is their version of the "Animal Style" burger from In and Out Burger if you know it.

I have to give meatmarket a try. Like the look of their menu and what I'm reading on here.

Is it a casual takeout or a sit down at a table and get served by a waiter style place?

Halfway between the two. Benches to sit at (with Rolls of Kitchen Paper...it is that messy). Order at the till and find a pew. If it isn't busy then it will be brought to you. Otherwise shouted from the serving counter.

It is pretty expensive. Freezing in winter. But at less busy times a great place for filth.

Went again last night, they had some sort of flood also ran out of bacon and hot dogs. Still a bloody good burger and fries with a blueberry coke.

Queues are too big at the moment at both places.

So went to Byron burger instead.

Tried both back to back...
Shake shack burgers too fast foody but the rest is good.
5 guys was a lot better and the toppings were nice.
Both were surprisingly expensive and nowhere near meatliqor tastiness

Pretty much my experience. I was not impressed with shake shacks burgers and I do find five guys buns a bit soft and doughy as they dont toast then. The Cajun fries in 5 guys are really good though.

Meatliqor is still better than both.

cloud9 - how do the portion sizes compare to the US? Proper heart attack sizes with the fries etc over there

I'm down in London at the weekend and want to try one of these, or possibly Bodeans.

Had a small Cheeseburger at Fiveguys the other night just before closing (no queues tho!), and was rather disappointed tbh.

Overhyped and overpriced I thought, and certainly not a patch on the Meatliquor/market fare around the corner.

Hoping ShakeShack is better when I'm next in town.

Last time I went to shakeshack in New York the portions weren't that big to be honest. More or less similar to a (UK) large McDonald's meal.

I was referring to Five Guys, the amount of fries you get is unreal!

Small fries is a holder like McDonald's
Regular fries is that holder plus a large bowl of extra thrown in the bag
Large fried is holder and two large bowls thrown in the bag

A large fries is enough for three average people I would say. I think it's the buns that let five guys down

Sounds a bit like Chipotle, over in the states its a cheap snack, but in the London outlets your lucky to get any change from a £10 if you include a drink.

We have had a Steers, south african firm apparently, opened up recently in Clapham Junction. Service was embarrassingly slow but nice enough burger for the price.

A cheeseburger (2 patties) regular fries and a drink is nudging £15

About $12 (£8) for pretty much the same in a branch of Five Guys in Cincinnati, not sure if it's more expensive in other areas but there's a mighty UK/London tax there.
