And so a new year starts and I have the honour of kicking off the cooking competition. With a nod to seasonality, the theme for this round is: GAME ON

The main component of your dish must be seasonal game, wildfowl or deer. So pheasant, partridge, rabbit, duck, goose, venison, take your pick and get roasting, frying or pie-ing.

Bonus marks (in my eyes) awarded for a nice image of a hearty seasonal dish you'd like to come home to after a hard days shooting.

Best of luck everyone, let's recover from the lethargy of the holidays and see a good compliment of entries.

GAME ON!

  • THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT ARE AS FOLLOWS*
1, No more than 3 photos to be entered unless stated by the theme setter.
2, Food must be prepare by yourself as much as possible IE not putting a goat curry in the microwave.
3, The competition will run from Saturday 18th January to Sunday 2nd February.
4, Voting will commence Monday 3rd February for a week.

Edit: extended the comp an extra week.

That's a good theme Matt, I'll try to find time to do something but it won't be until next weekend.

One point though, perhaps you should think of letting it run for a bit longer to allow more people enough time to think about a dish, get the ingredients and then prepare it.

Happy to let it run longer if that's what people want, it's just that if it gets to February PH pedants might start saying we're out of the game season.smile

Just wondering what to cook. I have a freezer full of venison, pheasant and partridge.

Also lots of snails in the garden, which are active in the mild weather we're currently having. Do these count as 'game'?

The Brother in Law came to stay for the weekend and I know he likes a good casserole. I presented him with slow cooked shin of beef, marinated and braised in red wine and stock with chorizo, onions, carrots, celery, smoked paprika and herbs.

It was served with roast potatoes and spinach and he went home a happy man, it was rich and delicious with that lovely smokey flavour that only chorizo can produce, I'm just about to have the leftovers tonight, nom, nom.

Bugger, put this in the wrong thread, should be in the dinner pics one.

Any chance of someone who hows how to moving it for me please?

You'll have to wait until next week for a game dish.

"I'm a turkey and posted in the wrong thread". Now can anyone tell me how to move it please?
