Getting back on topic smile

This year, Plumpton college ( near Brighton) are doing a masters degree in viticulture and oenology. I got the WSET Diploma 20 years ago and there wasn't really anywhere to go after that (except MW status, which needed a lot of support). If I were a lot younger I'd sign up for it.

Having always had designs on buying/planting a small vineyard and then drinking the profits, those courses are interesting. I'd always presumed that one would have to travel abroad to learn, or just get down and dirty by buying something and learning on the job. Mind you, Brighton is so far away from Perthshire, it might as well be abroad!!

Don't you like Whisky?

There are volunteering opportunities at more Southerly English vineyards to give you some hands on experience. I sometimes help out at Warden Abbey vineyard, which is a few miles south of Bedford.

I have been known to imbibe.... However, given the choice of distilling/blending/ageing whisky in the cold damp conditions on Scotland, versus growing grapes in some warm, temperate locale elsewhere, I lean towards warmth!

There's also the issue of a vineyard requiring 4/5 years to get up and running, while the production of a good Malt Whisky is double that.
