Glad to see there are some fellow Pistonheads out there with some good taste in beer.

These are tonight's examples which we have managed to get through...

Very jealous! I love Belgian beer. How much does beer cost there generally? I know it's quite expensive at bars, but is it any cheaper than the UK when buying it in bulk/at a supermarket?

We bought that lot at a bog standard Carrefour in Ypres. The bottles were give or take under a pound a go on average. This was about a fifth of what was available in a relatively small local supermarket - about the size of a Tesco metro:

Kwak is lovely.

Brooklyn 1 and 2 is available in my local supermarket is a staple in the summer.

I have some Pyraser Jubletrunk, Spalter Dunkel and a mixed crate of Frankische bier in the celler that is slowly being drunk. Will need to do another 4 hour round trip soon to get some more!

Got a few of these at home , not keen on the red Kriek though! just literally had a bottle of Chimay blue with my dinner now! lovely. My favourite one I've discovered so far though has gotta be 3 monts, try it!

Beer is a little cheaper than the UK , but is of a far superior quality to Carling etc!!!

I don't usually go for bottled beer but this was excellent.

Just a quick question don't want to hijack the thread, got some bottles of hobgoblin, spitfire, and bishops finger in, is it a big no no to fridge chill them , do any of you real ale types know people who do chill them.

It's all down to preference. Most people would probably say room temperature however, that clearly covers a huge potential for variation. Serving warmer will bring out sweet notes and cooler the more bitter notes. I tend to store mine in the coolest room (still quite warm this time of the year) and put in the fridge 5-10 minutes before drinking. Typically English Ales such as Hobgoblin are designed to be served between 12-15 degrees.beer

Sorry to dig this up, but being new to this I thought it'd make sense not to start a new topic. I just got back from Europe and bought myself some new beer glasses and beers.

Starting my collection, as I already had some large tall plastic ones suitable for pre-freezing and also some small Stella ones.

Love the correct Kwak glass, not seen one for years. I used to live in Belgium.

Nice one on the Kwak glass; it's one of my favourites in my collection. Next time you're over there, try and get a Westmalle glass :

Hefty and nicely designed.

It’s a poor man’s lager, typically the drink of choice of those that haven't sampled European lagers!

Carling - beer-flavored dishwater. Watery soup with foam. It's not nice and I would be embarrassed to hold a can in my hand.
Probably would taste better with a dash of lemon Toilet Duck! laugh

For anyone in/near Southampton you need to have a look in Bitter Virtue located on Alma Road. They are a small shop with a huge selection of beers typically from UK, Europe and America. They tend to also bring in a few local draught ales which are sold in milk cartons direct from the barrel and the shop staff/owners are happy to provide advice and share their knowledge.

It is truly a hidden gem for any ale drinker but I've since moved from the South. If anyone knows of a similar store in Nottingham then I'd love to know.
