I've given up drinking for the time being, which may or may not need to be permanent. In any case, I'll be drinking substantially less. So what on earth do non-drinkers drink on social occasions? I used to mainly drink lager when out, or wine at home. Becks Blue is aweful, and I'm not 12 so there is only so much diet coke and lemonade I can handle.

I too dislike Becks Blue, as it's really annoyingly expensive and doesn't taste like beer.

I had a Bitburger 'Drive' the other day and it was actually very pleasant. But only seen it in one pub so far.

I have tried most of these and they are nice:

http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Shopping/FindProduc... free beer

Cobra
Bavaria
Erdinger << nicest

But I still find them terribly gassy, are you looking for non alcoholic beers or recipies for other non alcoholic drinks?

One drink I tried that was not bad was something along this:

soda water, elderflower cordial, dash of orange blossom water and angostura bitters... all over ice

I'm looking for things I'd be able to order in an ordinary city centre bar really. Lager was my usual berverage of choice, but I'm open to ideas. Like your suggestion above, never even heard of two fo those ingredients! Will I get punched if I ask for it in northern pub?

Tonic water, ice, lime. Close your eyes and pretend it's a G&T.

That's what I do.

Unfortunately I detest ginger in all it's forms, which is ironic given my hair colour.

Rubbish!

What you want is tonic water, ice, lime. Close your eyes and pretend it's a VAT.

That's what I don't do.

Generally, I'll have a soda and lime and then just move to tap water. I can't stand drinking sugary drinks all night, plus I now dislike getting in rounds. It upsets me when a sober night at the pub costs me £20 for 6 glasses of soda water. Plus I don't drink as much as my buddies so just get a glass of water every 2 rounds.

Sorry but your mates are assholes if they are forcing you to be in rounds when you are on sodawater... we never do that if one of us needs to abstain from the alcohol.

?????

Who says they're forcing me into rounds? If someone buys me a drink I'll buy them one back, it's common decency. I don't drink, so are you suggesting I don't ever have to pay for my drinks and I should sponge off my friends permanently?

I didn't drink for a while and found the San Miguel alcohol free option the best.

No... in that case or your case, you are in your own round for X rounds (until cost of your round = number of drinks you have consumed)... we do that with several people we know that will only have a pint for our 3 in this case... so if there are 3 of us, we will pay for theirs on the 1st, the 4th and they buy the 7th round (they have paid for 3 pints now that they have had)... or remember for next time.

Simples... Would never expect anyone to have to pay more than their share or we let them just add money (cost of a soda water, etc) to the kitty when they want a drink.

No thanks, I'm quite happy with what I do.

When pregnant I went through most options, Erdinger was the best beer IMHO but mostly I drank any Fentimans or lime and soda, occasionally blackcurrant for a change.

Best I found in a pub was still non alcoholic Aspalls. Never found it again frown

Is it Fentimans that do an 'Orange Jigger' as well. Really nice, not to sweet either. I'm sure it's Fentimans that make it.

Its simple really. If you're not drinking and everyone else is... buy your own. Otherwise you're going to pay a fortune and have 3-4 soda waters in the time period that everyone else has 8 pints.

If you're driving them to/from pub and only drinking soda waters... your wallet should never leave your pocket.

Which is precisely what I do, but apparently that makes all my mates assholes. Apparently they should be paying for all my drinks all night. Either that or I should be running a spreadsheet to calculate how much we owe each other. wink
