I see the majority of them no longer have the roasting date listed in the picture, smart move!

How often do you get new batches in? I like the sound of the Suarez, will be ordering a bag next month.

Usually get new ones in every 6 weeks or so. Only got about 3 x 250g bags of Suarez left on the shelf I'm afraid!

Is the average shelf life for roasted beans a month? My current bag of stuff was roasted on the 26th of September but the taste seems to have changed a lot over the past few days. Still got a third of it left which is a shame.

Try keeping beans in the fridge.

I'll give that a go with my next batch. The current stuff was stored in an airtight container with a plastic bag clip on the bag itself. Seems to have developed a strange citrus like aftertaste which isn't pleasant to me in the slightest.

what's the purpose of the valve thing on the side of bags of beans/grounds? If I keep beans loose in a completely airtight container, am i fking them up?

The beans will only deteriorate from here as they keep ageing. This is why some coffee shops start giving old coffee beans away because you can use them as slug deterrents.

Essentially from what I've read and been told, you need to wait for a week after the roasting date to start using the beans and then you have around 3-4 weeks after that to consume them all.

Another way of telling how old you're beans are if you use a french press (cafetiere) is by the amount of crema the forms at the top of the pot. The more that forms the younger the beans are.

I wouldn't recommend storing beans in the fridge or freezer, mainly because coffee beans are porous and can soak up the condensed air within the space which in turn displaces the coffees natural oils.

Here's an article I found that may be of interest;

I did an experiment and found that keeping beans in the fridge does work, providing the bag remains sealed and unopened.

In my case the bag the beans came in is black, like I said earlier the bag was closed with a bag clip and kept in an airtight container with my aeropress and grinder. The container was stored on a open shelf. Will try a cupboard nexr time. Tried the beans again this evening and the taste seemed alright. Wonder if its the grinder, used it daily for the past few weeks. Will try stripping it down tomorrow to clean it. Read mixed views on how to clean the ceramic burrs but hot water and a cheapo toothbrush should do the trick.

We used to buy from Monmouth Coffee but then our local coffee shop (who introduced us to Monmouth) opened a second shop which they use Nude Espresso in....we now use "Nude" at home.
