Slightly tarnishing the thread as its a lager, but since it's midweek I'm having a light German pils - Perlenbacher from Lidl (@ 91p per 500ml) it's quite refreshing!

Brewdog Punk IPA

Available from Sainsbury's in 660ml bottles at £2.50
I hate to say this, but I think this is without doubt, the most vile ale I have ever tried. I saw the hype a year or more ago and tried a bottle.

Ghastly drink.

+1

Anything by Brewdog or Brooklyn Brewery is absolutely rank to my tastes.

Current faves are Pure UBU and Adnams Ghost ship. Adnams Spin drift is also nice but quite pale.

Chimay blue and red are also a good choice to take your time over. Fairly heavy hitters these two so take care!

My No 1 beer that. Waitrose are now stocking Sierra Nevada Torpedo and what a fine brew that is. Just don't drink more than one or two...
I was tempted with that.... the Sierra Nevada IPA gets good reviews, as well.
The IPA is great, but Torpedo is better still. American beer....who'd have thought it?

Local beer and brewer West Berkshire Brewery's Good old Boy isn't a bad drop. Ringwood Forty-niner used to be my favourite but seem to be happy with An Abbott ale at all times these days

I'm liking the US inspired beers at the moment. Fullers Wild River as mentioned, Oakham Citra, Adnams Ghost Ship all get close. That grapefruity freshness - cue Homeric drooling. Citra 6 for £9 on Ocado

Worth trying a sample set from Meantime. They do some great stuff. Yakima Red a favourite of mine but I am a fan of nearly everything they do. The brewery tour is good fun too.

Christ almighty, they do a Xmas version?!? That'll pack some voltage, won't it??

The offie 'round the corner has recently started stocking this :

Very rich and dark; 6.0 volts

For Christmas this year, I'll be cracking open this :

Bought in a small shop in Santo Stefano di Sessanio last June.

Aldi have the Innis & Gunn Cherrywood, spiced and Treacle in at the moment, £1.49 a bottle. I'm not an Ale drinker but even I like them. Just bought 40 odd bottles for my OH over Christmas once he's off call.

Ours has too. The West Indies Porter is very nice, but at 6% it isn't a 'session' beer.

They do a Dublin Porter too, which is I think 3.8% and tastes pretty good.

I do like Porter. When I first moved to London aeons ago it was still sold in pubs round about where I then lived. Then it sort of dropped off the radar. Nice to see it back.

If stout is on the radar, then Robinson's Old Tom should be in the glass. Cracking stuff.

Other stuff of note, Bateman's Victory, Innis and Gunn Rum cask, and for a lager , Perroni Gran Reserva.

There are others of course, but these a exemplary in their field.

I do like a bottle of Old Tom - the only Robinson's beer I actually like.

Have we mentioned Brewdog beer? If you can get "Tactical Nuclear Penguin" is an experience!
