Whisky, how can I develop a taste for it?
Discussion
I started drinking cheap scotch with coke as a 16 year old in my local pub, on nights out with my first girlfriend. 31 years on I still like a cheap scotch with coke, or ginger ale. But recently my son bought my father in law something very expensive (I'm dammed if I can remember what, but was 40% proof) and I had a little sip. Yum.
Have to say that I've recently added home made alcoholic ginger beer (10% proof) as a mixer to add to cheap scotch. Mind numbing

It's the best whisky I've had so far . . . I'll be buying another when this has gone . . . maybe in a week or two.
Christ. You drink a lot!How does it compare to an 18 year old bottle of Dalmore?
Not tried the Dalmore but it's similar to the Glengoyne 21 but richer and fruitier. The Glendronach 1991 22 year old is great too but the Glengoyne 25 really is something very special, very rich and sweet, clearly a sherry finished whisky but there is so much flavour and depth there I'd suggest everybody tries it, just once at least. There's no peat obviously being a Glengoyne but the strength, rich stewed fruits and spice is just awesome . . . the after taste is long, rich, warm and full of strong pears, apples and dark chocolate spice, just fantastic. I always wondered if there was any point in spending over £40 a bottle and clearly there is.
The odd ball is Glendronach 15 year old revival, that's a fantastic whisky. Apparently they closed the distillery for 6 years so even the 15 is really 21 years old and it's a seriously tasty, deep, oak flavoured whisky and is fantastic !

Just keep trying it and you will get used to it.
I used to hate cigarettes with a passion, but kept trying them, forcing myself to smoke, and now I am on 40 a day!
Stick at it, pal, you can do it!

I think whisky can't be compared to cigarettes unless you've got a serious problem. I mean I can't see the average whisky drinker being compelled to drink whisky like a smoker is compelled to smoke. And I couldn't afford 40 drams a day. Neither could my liver.
