Slots not tall enough to fit a slice of 'normal' bread, and not wide enough for fresh bread / pitta etc. Hopeless.

I bought a Dualit Architect kettle yesterday for £80

It's not all about function. You pay for good design. An object you handle daily should be a pleasing design.

dunno about this exact model, but I bought a similar one from tesco a few years ago, and I had 'normal' toast from it this morning, fully toasted

i have previously enjoyed pittas too, the round ones though, not the big oval ones

Plenty of the reviews state that normal bread doesn't fit. So many suffer from this trivial problem.

That is the exact model I have (except in black) and recommended on page 1

I guess all the people deriding spending £100 on a toaster drive a Dacia Sandero as it does exactly the same job as a BMW? tongue out

We have black too, for some reason couldn't link the exact colour. I bought my parents the traditional 4 slice about 10 years ago, it's still going strong but has required a new timer but according to my father, parts are easy to come by and replace.

No, think of it as us driving a Skoda Octavia 2.0 T VRS, you driving an A3 2.0 T S-line - pretty similar in performance, but you paid more for some flash packaging to impress the chaps down at the golf club wink

I'm pretty sure I could tell the difference between driving a BMW and a Dacia. I'm not so sure I'd be able to tell the difference between slices of toast cooked by a £20 toaster and a £100 one.

Yeah we have the 'classic' dualit too elsewhere, and it is still going strong. Have had to replace the timer, but easy and cheap to do- IIRC it was about $20.
For this one though we wanted the bagel setting lick

What kind of pauper would spend less than £100 on a kettle?

A smart one. You can get a 15 year old quality kettle with loads of life left for well under £100.

My neighbour has a £150 kettle but I'm pretty sure he leases it, so it's not actually his, it's just rented isn't it?

I always save up and pay cash for my kettles and toasters and buy premium brands, that way I know I'm better than my neighbours. Mine is the Dualit E39, it's had 8 owners but it's mint.

I bought my tesco value one for I think £2.40 back when they still used red and blue branding on value stuff, at least 4 years ago. Still going strong and makes fantastic toasted crumpets! £100 seems like insanity to me.
