I seem to be missing all the hype about Nandos. I took a friend out for dinner there as she insisted I had to try it out. Food was average at best, not cheap either. Two bits of chicken and chips with a drink each was £25.

Is it overrated or is it just me? confused

It's not just you. Nandos is over-rated and over-priced. I'd rather go to KFC.

Nandos - KFC for the middle classes. Nothing to write home about.

My kids harked on at me for ages I had to try it, so off we went. I was the only one of the four of us that hadn't been, only been back once since & that was because my OH wanted to go there again.

It's not just you. Cheryl Cole is in the top 10 and people drink Carling and they're both st too. People just don't have taste.

Not just you.

I went once and was distinctly underwhelmed. Chaotic service, a tiny portion of cheap-tasting and greasy chicken in a slimy sauce that wasn't particularly hot, plus the greasy fumes wafting around the place made my clothes and hair stink afterwards.

The one thing in Nando's favour was the spicy chip salt. However KFC have now introduced their version of this, and it's much nicer.

Same here. Friends took us out and insisted we had to go. Really didn't get it. Spicy chicken and chips with salad. Tasted ok, nothing special, I could make just as good at home.

It seems they can charge extra because they have 5 or 6 different bottles of sauce you can choose from. Hardly groundbreaking.

I like Nando's. That's all I have to say on the matter.

Went there a few days ago for the first time and took some children. We bought a whole chicken and divvied it out between them. It went down well and was not expensive.

Felt a bit low-rent though.

It's a decent quick lunch place, not a special night out. Refried beans are good and the mash. Yummy

Went to one years ago in Nottingham, I think they must have been fairly new at the time and food seemed ok. Went to the one Basingstoke a while back and wouldn't bother again. Not sure if they've gone down hill or my tastes have improved biggrin

In a similar vein I got dragged to a 5 Guys burger place a while back. Seemed to be a junk food burger for 5 times the price you'd pay in any other junk food burger places. The drinks machine was good though.

I'll stick with Wagamamas, Kokoro or a pub when I want some relatively fast food thanks.

Not a fan of sushi, and sashimi's ok but I wouldn't want to much of it. Yo Sushi's conveyer belt business is a bit of fun and I can see what your kids would love it, but the Mrs, who quite likes sushi, reckons Kokoro is way better.

We don't tend to do fast food that often though.

I like chicken, so I go to Nandos, purely down to the fact that it's all freshly cooked.

However, you couldn't go there every night because you would end up being broke!

nandos first appeared around 2000ish i think when 'foodie' junk food was a new thing. quality deffo took a drop as they expanded massively. same thing happened to wagamamas, steep nosedive in quality surprised you like it still [although their foreign outlets are decent].

shake shack's my current favourite, the shack stack - burger with breaded cheese-filled mushroom - is genius.

To be fair I've not been to Wagamamas in a while, but still seemed pretty decent when I did. Since Kokoro opened in Guildford I've been addicted to their Katsu curry so tend to nip in there instead, and last time we nearly went to Wagamamas I got dragged in to the 5 Guys disappointment.

I thought the only 5 Guys was in central London or are talking about the same?
