Yes, I've been here, is good for a steak. Also Hawksmoor as someone else recommended.I like Gaucho for steaks as well. There are a few in London, been to them all plus the Richmond branch. My favourite is the one in Swallow Street, off Regent's Street. It's a cool little place with a lovely chilled out bar on the ground floor, and quite funky restaurant rooms above. I always have a nice evening when I go there, and the staff always seem to be really good. Prices not out of this world either. Steaks excellent IMHO.

Hmm, I think Gauchos is pretty poor for steaks. I'm surprised that you rate it after saying you've been to Hawksmoor etc. I like Gaucho for steaks as well. Its popular to say Gaucho is st. But it just isn't. And I speak having been many times. The decor is a bit rank, but the food is good.Personally my favourite is Goodmans mainly because they do a decent sized fillet (400g), and its not quite as big and canteen feeling as some of the others can be. Beyond that, they're much for muchness, Mash, Hawksmoor, Goodmans etc, same sides, they're all decent places to eat steak. Sophies I also liked when I went, but probably because I had the Chateaubriand, I've not been back since, will have to try it again.
Indian wise, Dishoom is very good IMO.

It is.Hawksmoor's ribeye is my favourite
For Chinese try Min Jiang, within walking distance to where you're staying. Only place in London I've had proper roast duck and the views are great.
For Indian you can go to Trishna. Very reasonable prices and not bastardised Indian dishes.
The problem with Gaucho is that it's inconsistent. Depending on which minimum wage grill monkey you get on the night, you'll either get a good meal or a poor one.
At Gaucho prices, get a poor one and you'll never go back to repeat the same mistake.
As if the steak weren't expensive enough, absolutely everything else is extra. A tiny bowl of chips, £4. A tiny salad that looked as though it came from a bag, £5. A tiny pot of sauce, £3.
Wines are obscure Argentinian (deservedly so) at massive mark-ups.
Meanwhile, back on track, I've never had a bad meal at Hix Oyster & Chop House in Clerkenwell. Indeed, many memorable ones.
I'd recommend Hix to a visitor since it showcases the best of British produce, though this might not necessarily be steak - it depends what they've bought in for the day. The drinks list is inspired, with many home-grown options.

Can't argue with that - I love it there. My second favourite London restaurant.Meanwhile, back on track, I've never had a bad meal at Hix Oyster & Chop House in Clerkenwell. Indeed, many memorable ones.

Totally agree- Gaucho's near Finsbury Square has been notably average on 3 occasions ( customer's choice of restaurant) that i have been there. They make such a fuss of the performance but forget to give you great food. It's such a let down for me because the best steak i have ever had was Argentinian so always hoping to repeat that meal ( La Parilla, Dubai in case you are wondering). Hawksmoor is pricey but you can at least guarantee top notch food every time.
